Wow, CNN talking about extreme metal in a non-contemptuous way, that's fucking ace.

I never thought I'd see the day when CNN.com has a picture of a guy wearing a Suffocation shirt, and talk about a band called Cattle Decapitation.

interesting article. im glad to see they listed proper metal bands instead of the modern commercial trash.

but i do have one gripe. that article was completly thrown tot he left. no mention of any band that might be supportive of bush or a more conservative view on politics.

how can they ignore bands like slayer (see "dittohead"). there are plenty of metalheads who support the right. i guess we dont get a voice.

lastly, punk and "learned" should never be used in the same sentence, unless theyre saying "that punk hasnt learned anything!"

The article was well written and manages to not be insulting, but these types of articles always annoy me because they are only telling me what I already know. I know that it is written for those who don't know, but it is still a little grating.

    "Metal's punk brethren..."

I thought the article on the whole was good though, referring in a non biased way to semi underground metal :kickass:

If this is the article that was shown in an excerpt on Blabbermouth a couple of weeks back, then it's still another example of the general ignorance of the mainstream in regards to Metal music. But who really cares anyway?

    actually, they did

"More than three decades after Black Sabbath conjured images of the dark arts, heavy metal is growing up. "

grrrr. sort of an "just in case you didnt know what metal is" sort of thing....

    1. Metal has touched on the political from the moment of its birth.

    2. Explicitly political lyrical content is generally tied to anti-art music (see Death, Napalm and Key, Grand Belial's).

    3. The mainstream only notices metal when it starts pandering to the acceptable political prejudices of this wretched society.

    4. The bands mentioned here are universally godawful, and fundamentally opposed to the true spirit and meaning of metal.

    5. Chris Barnes is a pillow biting faggot.
