Let's talk about covers, good ones bad ones....from epic to terrible. .... I recently heard James Maynards cover of Heart Shaped Box...it's horrendous His cover of Imagine was epic.
Obviously, Metallica doing "Blitzkrieg" and "Am I Evil?" and Judas Priest doing "Diamonds and Rust" are three classic examples of covers done right. If a cover is to be attempted at all, it should, at the very least, outdo the original. Whether it is a completely different take, or more of a tribute, it must accomplish this, or else everyone will see this as a rip-off or a money grab or something.
Dream Theater - Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding is a good one. I like Metallica's cover of Mercyful Fate songs, and Stone Cold Crazy.
Nocternity covers Björk @no country for old wainds Since I know you are a Björk fan. @Slayed Necros Since I dare you to listen to the original song.
That Nocternity cover was actually one of the reasons I started listening to Björk. What the Hell is this Averse Sefira cover haha, never knew they did this.
I always forget that's a Björk cover. I'm listening to the original now and I don't mind it. It's not something I could see myself listening to very often though.
I fucking love Saint Vitus but honestly I think I prefer this version. It just sounds so beautiful and alien to me.
