Trying to figure them out. I'm going with (in no specific order) Rush Muse Coheed and Cambria Tool Dream Theater Mastodon Opeth Metallica (I don't know what else to call them these days)
You left a big one out. Porcupine Tree. Some even would call Dredg and The Mars Volta progressive bands too. And I'm assuming we're not counting old proggers like YES and Genesis, right?
Fall of Troy Mars Volta Dredg Between the Buried and Me The Faceless Porcupine Tree not quite sure of their sales numbers, just basing it on tours I've seen
PT - Good call. They are selling huge in albums and live tickets. I have no idea how well Dredg sells, and I haven't listened to them enough. The Mars Volta fits. Wasn't counting Yes and Genesis because neither has put out a progressive album in a while.
The problem with this list and ANY list is that no two people will agree that all these bands are truly progressive.
Really? They've probably sold more albums in the past couple years than many of the other mentioned bands combined.
still never heard of them. BNR Metal does not list them and Metal Archives seems to be down...so WHO ARE THEY?? :Smug:
are you referring to this band: Muse are a multi award-winning English alternative rock band that formed in Teignmouth, Devon in 1994. Muse have released five studio albums Showbiz (1999); Origin of Symmetry (2001); Absolution (2003); Black Holes and Revelations (2006), which earned the band a Mercury Prize nomination and a third place finish in the NME Albums of the Year list for 2006;[6] and The Resistance (2009).
Are you one of those, "If it ain't metal, then it don't exist!!!!" guys? Muse isn't a metal band, so they wouldn't be listed on BNR or any other metal-related site. Their new album debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard charts in the US and they have been *huge* in Europe for a while. Check out YouTube for a couple of their videos; chances are you've heard their music somewhere.
They also just pulled a pretty funny stunt on some talk show where they were supposed to perform "live." When they got to the studio they were informed they had to play to a prerecorded track and lipsync, so the members just switched around instruments and played with exaggerated movements the entire time. http://revivl.com/video-music/muse-refusing-to-lip-sync-on-talk-show-video/
And that one is only on there because it popped in my mind, and I figured that it -is- arguable so I put it on there.
Whaaaaaaaaaaaat? Are you the "I eat metal and shit chains" stereotype? Just giving you crap. Muse is a fantastic alternative/prog rock band. Great great band!!!
Easy one to overlook these days, but they still are selling a good # of tickets and CDs... Queensryche.
SERIOUSLY doubt I have heard their music. I do listen to metal pretty much, save hairbands, 80's pop and 70's guitar rock bands. but something like this is not up my alley: "Muse are known for their energetic and extravagant live performances [1][2][3][4] and their fusion of many music genres, including progressive rock, classical music and electronica"uke:
You definitely have. Unless you don't see TV commercials or wear your ipod when you're at the grocery store, haha.
