I don't listen to Funeral Doom much. I'm more into the Pentagram/Black Sabbath/Trouble/Saint Vitus type. But I like some of the different styles as well...Disembowelment, Winter, Unholy, Goatlord..etc
Well that explains it then, that stuff is awesome but much more on the epic/heavy side than haunting/oppressive.
Novembers Doom - Amid Its Hallowed Mirth Viogression - Expound and Exhort (one of the darkest, most evil DM albums ever) My Dying Bride - lots of stuff
This is one of the darkest songs I've heard. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=38cP_fb9V2k&feature=related[/ame]
I nomintate the following: For dark & Depressing: All Katatonia (Esp. Discouraged Ones - That S.O.B. can just leave me feeling numb) The cure - Faith (Great album, check out The drowning man & the song Faith) The Cure - Pornography (Tracks like Cold & the godlike The figurehead are pure misery Bethlehem - Sardonischer Untergang Im Zeichen Irreligioser Darbietung (Feat. Marco Kehren of Deinonychus performing one of the most miserable vocal performances I think I've ever heard.) Thine - In Therapy (Criminally underated album.) For Sad/Depressing: Anathema - A Natural Disaster & Judgement (Wicked tunes but can be hard to listen to at times) Aeon Spoke - Aeon Spoke & Above the buried cry (Again wicked tunes but hard to listen too at times.) Explosions in the sky - The earth is not a cold dead place (Instrumentals that tug on the heart strings)
Handsome - Quiet Liar The song doesn't sound too great on there, but you get the gist of it. One of the best songs I've heard in a long time...just a great all around song...find this album or dl if you must...a classic underrated album from 1997 that is pretty much unknown.
Here's a link: http://www.mediafire.com/?ykue5ltxowt I want to share this amazing album with everyone. Sounds very fresh. Stood the test of time. After you listen...buy the fuck out of it.
Steve Von till and Scott Kelly's(The wake is fantastic) solo acoustic works are very dark. Neurosis is also dark but I'm sure you've all heard them. Agents of oblivion came up with some haunting works: As did Acid Bath obviously but I'm sure you've all heard them. I think they wrote the most haunting ballads of all time. Rome has some beautiful haunting music: The God Machine is a very underrated and depressing band: Chorus is so amazing in this song, it's my favorite of all their songs: Those are just some favorites, if you like those check em out, songs like "Purity" and "in Bad Dreams" are also good ones to check out. I have more but I've probably flooded this thread.
holy shit. i haven't listened to this in so long. such a good cover. that whole album is so bleak. edit: probs contribute to thread also. been listening to disillusions song "untiefen". pretty dark.
