Deliverance is a GREAT album - however - it feels, at least to me, as if Opeth made the songs long just because "its the Opeth thing to do". It feels as if the album as a whole is to repetitive.
It just seemed a little bland to me. By The Pain I See In Others was the best track, along with Deliverance. The other songs had their moments too.
First album I bought of theirs. I don't rate Opeth albums, they all rule so fuck it. Listen and enjoy!
Bought Deliverance a few weeks ago too. I really like it, Masters Apprentices is one of my favorite Opeth songs
Deliverance is a great album. The production is alittle flat and one dementional, but it's not really a big problem or anything. Every production job I have heard from andy sneap sounds flat. His production jobs kinda sound cheap and like plastic imo. His production job on arch enemy 'wages of sin' is especially awful.
I think many would learn to appreciate Deliverance a lot more if you play the songs on an instrument. When you realize how unique every song on that album is, and how each song is different in their own way you really start to realize how magnificent the album is. Deliverance is my second fav album next to BWP, but it may eventually take the title as i learn all the tracks on it. I also think that the order of the songs is perfect and really needs to be played/listened too as a whole album. Where some may get turned off is that they feel that one song individually doesn't do it for them like BWP or SL songs do. I dont see this as weakening the album, but rather strengthening it as I cannot listen to just one song off that album at a time. It has to be in numerical order for me. Just my thoughts.
anthem doesnt mean best track.. think about that btw opeth's anthem is obviously demon of the fall seeing as it's their primary encore..
actually i find that listening to one SL song is annoying, not because of the music but because i have this thing where i just need to finish off the cd or story... deliverance is awesome. first 3-4 mins of masters is probably the worst just because of the repetition but the song kicks arse from there, especially that outro: genius.
I have absolutely no complaints what-so-ever. The title track is awesome. Masters opening riff is simple, but that doesn't bother me. Its heavy as fuck and reminds me of MA (which for me is fantastic).
I think mine has to be those melodic riffs with the awesome drums at the beginning of Wreath - 1:46-2:42 and 3:41-4:10 More on topic, I think Deliverance ranks right up there with SL and MAYH as my favorite Opeth albums....
I'm surprised that a Dream Theater fan finds that part interesting - generic guitar riff, generic lyrics, generic drumming, generic everything. I'm not criticizing your opinion. I just find it interesting that you have found something in that part to like. KFK EDIT: Vampyrous, I like that song on your website.
The only thing I find wrong with Deliverence is that is seems very incomplete. If it had been released with Damnation as a double album. It would be my favorite.
