:hotjump: DIMMU BORGIR, were promptly escorted from the premises after using profanity during a live radio interview Wednesday afternoon for commercial rock radio station WMMS-FM (100.7) in Cleveland. The Norwegian black metal act was in town to promote their appearance on the main stage of Ozzfest at the Blossom Music Center in Cleveland on Thursday, August 19th.

According to a press release, the incident in question occurred shortly after the start of the interview with WMMS midday host, Maxwell. While responding to a question from the DJ regarding JUDAS PRIEST vocalist Rob Halford's sexuality, Dimmu Borgir vocalist Shagrath and guitarist Silenoz stated that the controversy surrounding Halford's homosexuality is "fucking bullshit" and that it was an honor to play on the same stage as Judas Priest. Maxwell proceeded to declare the interview over at that moment and cut to a
commercial. During the commercial break, Maxwell and station
management ordered the band to leave WMMS studios. After coming back from commercial, the DJ insulted Dimmu Borgir on the air, urging Ozzfest attendees to throw rocks and other items at the stage during their set on the main stage Thursday.

The band is claiming that the boundaries of what they could say on the radio were not explained to them by station management before the interview, and that they had no idea what was considered unsuitable language for American radio. At this time, there is no indication that any action will be taken by WMMS's corporate parent, Clear Channel Communications.

Dimmu Borgir are currently performing on the main stage of this year's Ozzfest in support of their 2003 release Death Cult Armageddon, which has sold over 65,000 copies in the U.S. to date.

Here's the DJ's email address incase you want to send
    him some hatemail.
    maxwell@wmms.com

This guys such a hypocrite that he's got the curse word Bitch on his radio profile http://www.wmms.com/jox_maxwell.html

Why would I send the DJ a hatemail. He was right. Is Dimmu so stupid as to think "fucking bullshit" is acceptable on American radio, after the entire nation goes apeshit after seeing a nipple on national television?

And "bitch" technically was acceptable on American radio and television. "Fuck", "shit", "cock", "tits", "piss", "cunt", "motherfucker" and "cocksucker" were the 7 Dirty Words of American radion and TV before the nipple fiasco at the Superbowl (of course some stations get away with some of them). Dimmu used two of the "dirty words".

In short, the DJ is in the right. Don't let your blind fandom of the band cloud your judgment.

Let it be known that the DJ should not have insulted the band and urged concert-goers to throw rocks. He should have simply apologized to his audience. That was extremely unprofessional of the DJ, but when it comes to interviews that end on bad notes, the DJ always has to get the last word in.

    Dimmu still sucks, though.

What the fuck. He's not "right", he's a fucking idiot. Some of us who live in more civilized countries than the United States of Shit (clever eh?) aren't used to "fucking bullshit" being considered offensive on commercial radio. But how the FUCK should saying two (NOT OFFENSIVE) words on radio justify throwing fucking rocks at the band on stage? There are plenty of reasons to throw rocks at Dimmu Borgir, but this is not one.

I'd like to send the entire fucking United States hate mail.

So what, exactly, is the DJ doing "right?" Cutting off the fucking interview? Well gee, have a fucking Nobel Prize, he's a bitch of American media, noone's debating that he's not doing what he must do in order not to get killed by christians like you.

HEY GUYS WE (SUPPOSEDLY) ARE A BLACK METAL BAND LET'S BE ALL FUCKING RESPECTABLE AND NOT SAY DIRTY WORDS

I've have a degree in Radio/Television, so I know how it works. The DJ/interviewer will ALWAYS have the upper hand. If he/she does not like what the interviewee is saying on the air, the DJ will cut the interview short. It's just the way it is, I guess.

Still, (and I'm not saying i agree with it) Dimmu should have known that American mainstream audiences are extremely sensitive. Like I said, the entire "nipple" fiasco at the Superbowl was blown way out of proportion.

This has nothing to do with personal beliefs. Personally, I do not find those words offensive. I'm merely saying Dimmu were dumbasses for assuming that was acceptable on mainstream American radio.

I'm sure they've been interviewed before, so they should know the rules.

ALL HAIL THE LAND OF FREE SPEECH

FUCKING BULLSHIT. I am not going to censor myself because of some unwritten bullshit law, and though Dimmu Borgir are irrefutably some of the biggest sellouts ever, I suppose they won't be giving a flying fuck about what American media tells them to do either. Tell you what, why don't you take your seven bad words, print them out on paper, and shove them up your fucking ass?

HEY NEWSFLASH -- the world does not revolve around your fucking country. Do you have the slightest fucking idea of what is respectable on say Lithuanian radio? THOUGHT NOT. Do you realize how absurd and unreal it sounds to someone from a country with free speech that saying "fucking bullshit" on radio is unacceptable? I mean I didn't have the slightest fucking clue that shit like that could ever be considered "offensive" until I read this thread. Why the fuck should Dimmu Borgir? They're fucking Norwegians.

I hardly believe there have been many USAmerican radio interviews with Dimmu Borgir before, but feel free to prove me wrong. Stop being an arrogant American cunt and assuming everyone knows about your country's little retarded PC intricacies that noone in the civilized world gives a flying fuck about.

Alright, fair enough with "fuck", "shit" and "cunt", but "piss"? For fucks sake! How does one describe going for a piss without using the word "piss"?

Yeah, fair enough. It is the DJ's show, so I guess he can pretty much do whatever he wants.

Actually, the 7 dirty words are a law made by the FCC, who clamped down even harder on American news mediums after "Nipplegate". Why do you think Howard Stern is getting fined by the FCC all the time?

I'm simply saying that's it's no surprise that the DJ stopped the interview. Any US DJ would have done the same exact thing (except Stern). And having some experience with radio, I can see the DJ's stance. Still, he should not have insulted the band or urged the rock throwing.

True, but you also said he did the "right" thing.

American arrogance again -- see, I'm not American, I have NO FUCKING IDEA who this Howard Stern is, and I only vaguely know about the nipple incident, which of course only further served to make the USA the laughing stock of the planet.

No, that's not what you are saying. You're saying it was the right thing to do.

Although Dimmu seem to have a very professional attitude, they still fucking suck. I'd throw rocks at them anyway.

I am thinking from the DJ perspective. He did do the right thing if he cares about:

    1. Keeping his job
    2. Keeping his broadcasting license
    3. Keeping his audience
    4. Avoiding a fine from the FCC
    5. Avoiding all the do-good PC decency coalitions from attacking his show and the station

His actions were, most likely, ones of self-preservation.

Again, let it be known that I vehemently disagree with the DJ's attitude after he ended the interview.

look the censors got a 15 second window to "clean up" any foul language (even on a live brodcast) so I dont know what the big trip is. and dimmu borgir should sue that asshole for telling people to throw rocks at them on stage. I also belive that all the controversy suronding rob halford's sexual preferance is indeed "fucking bullshit", its none of our damn business what he does behind closed doors. fact is hes a great entertaner and he was right for saying it.
