Actually I think Down's first album 'NOLA'is probably much closer to stoner rock than the groove/sludge sound that they went with on II and III.

I've never really got into Down but I've always considered them to be somewhere between Southern rock/metal, and "groove" (which isn't a term I like). Though saying that, they do have their doomy moments... but they're definitely not straight doom, in any sense.

Far fom it, but they have the stoner vibe on the first album.

    Down suck.

    The Wizar'd

They're a Aussie doom band and quite popular despite the vocals. I got given their album on my birthday by a dude who runs a label and put this album out. Its quite enjoyable now and again.

Give NOLA and Down II a go if you want to, but Down III isn't very good. Like, at all.

Down III has some awesome songs on it, but a lot of it is pretty meh. NOLA is about 27 billion times better

Down are a massive over-rated borefest. Phil is also a turd vocalist.

Napalm Death have actually done some amazing doom/industrial tracks, like Omnipresent Knife In Your Back, Morale and Contemptuos
