And I never knew so many people on this forum were over 50, judging by the number of "old-fart metal" votes there are in this topic.

Traditional Heavy Metal is a current genre. Bands like Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Accept, Motorhead, still release albums and play shows even in the past 2 years for many of them.

I can't think of one other person on this forum that would likely vote for Groove Metal. Though 2 people voted for Glam Metal so who knows. Might as well make Nu Metal a category while you're at it.

Even if they do, still wouldn't consider this to be a current genre.

im curious what genre he'd consider "current". black metal was an 80s genre, death metal before that and thrash before that. sabbath invented doom in the 70s

maybe hes talking about fuckin folk metal, which was a 90s thing

Its still treading the borders of mediocrity, unless you know of anything better than Satan's Life Sentence in the past maybe 10 years. People may still be playing it, but in any relevant sort of sense, I havent seen too much (if at all). Its nothing like the current death and black metal scene.
