I'd rework my list as it's no longer accurate, but alas, I lack the motivation

Lots of people saying 2013 has been a great year for metal and I'm inclined to agree. Lots of fantastic releases across all genres and there's still so much to listen to. I'll be modifying my list to more accurately reflect some new stuff I've heard.

Jack O' The Clock - All My Friends : 2013 has been a strong year for quality music and this one tops my list regardless of genre. A modern-day Gentle Giant crossbred with American Folk, R.I.O./chamber rock-isms, sprinkles of jazz, and fantastic lyrics. "Avant-Folk." In a word: Brilliant!

Other Notables (Besides the top few, in no particular order):

    Exist - Sunlight
The Gabriel Construct - Interior City
Nero Di Marte - Nero Di Marte
Zevious - Passing Through The Wall
    Julia Kent - Character
Orbweaver - Strange Transmissions From The Neuralnomicon
    Kayo Dot - Hubardo
The Knife - Shaking The Habitual
    Vhol - Vhol
    Causa Sui - Euporie Tide
    Big Business - Battlefields Forever
Beehoover - The Devil and His Footmen
    Ulver - Messe
    The Knells - The Knells
    Liam Singer - Arc Iris

    Jazz

Jonathan Finlayson & Sicilian Defense - Moment & The Message
Satoko Fujii Ma-Do - Time Stands Still
    Fire! Orchestra - Exit!
Ingrid Laubrock Anti House - Strong Place
Convergence Quartet - Slow & Steady
    Mary Halvorson - Illusionary Sea
September Trio - The Destructive Element
    Kaze - Tornado
    Eric Revis Trio - Asylum
