I know the 3 (known?) listed colours on the tape are: red, green and blue.
But do anyone else who has this demo have a purple one?

    I have this colour too.
I'm afraid it's a fake too, but don't know for sure.
Was planning to ask the band, but haven't got to that yet...

Thanks for the reply, cool that another one got this!
How many fake ones have you seen? I had never seen this colour before I got it myself.
Got it from a guy who had a pretty impressive collection of old demo tapes bought in the middle of the 90´s, so I doubt it is a fake.
But maybe the best thing is to ask the band and see if they remember.

If the guy you bought it from really got it in that era, I tend to think that it isn't fake. Your copy is the only one I heard of, next to my own of course.

    I'll push that topic again.

I have that purple demo tape too and bought it from a serious and trustable metal collector. He started collecting in the "pre-internet-age" and got that tape
directly from Olavi. There is no doubt - the purple tapes aren't a fake.

Nice, a third purple discovered! So if the band could tell if they remember a purple tape we could officially add this to the already existing colours! :Spin:

I've written a request (via a contact) to Olavi Mikkonen concerning this matter and I am very happy that I finally got an official response after years of research.
Of course, I'd like to share the answer with you because we collectors are discussing this topic for quite a long time now.

First of all: I've bought my purple tape alongside with a handwritten letter some years ago from a serious collector. He told me that Olavi has written this letter back in the 1990's and so I asked Olavi if it's real or fake.

Secondly, I've bought a red demo tape of TAOTFW that looks exactly like the green, blue and purple version. It is also pro printed with the lettering "Fimbul Records" - and not with "SCUM records" like the first press red tape. I also asked Olavi about this second red tape version.

And here we go with Olavi's answer:

"Letter is written by me and it’s possible we did do some purple tapes as well.
The other Red tape might as well be original.
This is almost 20 years ago and nobody can be 100% sure if it's original or not, but most likely it’s original.
    O."

The fact that Olavi has sent the purple tape alongside with a letter which he says is really from him should proove that the purple tape is an official release indeed :headbang:

The second red tape version is said to be "most likely" official too. It really shows no sign of a fake and I got it from a collector who didn't really intend to sell it - but I persuaded him :)

Thus, there seem to be FIVE (!) different tape versions of "The Arrival of the Fimbul Winter" right now:

    • red version "SCUM records"
    • red version "Fimbul records"
    • blue version "Fimbul records"
    • green version "Fimbul records"
    • purple version "Fimbul records"

Hehe, no worries - you sold me only the blue one ;)
I got the red one from a metal collector who doesn't collect Amon Amarth specifically.

If you are inetrested I might post some photos in here tonight.

Ahhh, fuck... One more (Beside the green) demo to get then. Sad that he can´t remember but as said, it was 20 years ago. Really hard then to spot a fake tape. Thanks Andy for checking this out and I love to see a picture of it! (New or old logo btw?)

Thanks for the picture, nice one never seen that one before! Hmmm, this opens for a possible thing that it can be more colours and variations out there... Surely we will never know what is real or fake, if there ever been any?? Maybe the transparent tapes that I heard were fakes some years ago were real too? This makes it really hard for me as a collector that want the set complete....

Well, in genereal my opinion is that if somebody makes some fakes he wants to present and sell them. You'd see 'em on ebay or traders forums and the creators want to get rid of them. I cannot see such behaviour with the Fimbul Demo. I got nearly all my tapes in asking people to sell them by offering a decent prize. They didn't really intend to sell.

Secondly, most fakes show some mistakes so you can recognize them as fakes.
However, the now known colours do all look the same and the band says they are "most likely" original.

Thus, I wouldn't think too much about it. For me it's fascinating to discover more and more rare thingys of the band. Otherwise, collecting would become a bit lame, wouldn't it :headbang:

I agree with you buddy totally :headbang: That is the cool things with collecting, discover new cool stuff! It is really nice with these discussions here as it seems we aren't many AA collectors hanging here. I'm really jelaous of you getting the fimbul rec red tape mate! But maybe someday I hope to add it for my collection too :)

There's no reason to be jealous as you have got the SCUM demo tape that I'm still searching for ;)

Maybe we can both complete our collections one day. Working on it eagerly :)
