If anyone knows of any albums which I can download for free (legitimately), I would love to know what they are. Preferably metal, but I'm really just after good music as I can't afford to buy any more cd's for a while. Thanks.
The best legitimately free album i've ever heard: http://idmtrade.blogspot.com/2008/01/flashbulb-soundtrack-to-vacant-life.html
I don't understand why some artists release their work for free, such as these. I mean, the good thing about non mainstream music is it is done just for the sake of art, yet they have to pay back the studio rent and other fees and make living out of it. But these artists, what's their benefits??
No benefits beside releasing music. And you know...people can have other jobs that pay well. Just coz you released music doesn't mean you have to live of it. [/cptobvious]
I thought so, but it makes it harder if you tour and constantly play live so u won't have another job that pays well.
Most obscure bands that are releasing things for free in the first place aren't touring like crazy. It makes complete sense really.
Yea, or rare festival gigs, there are VERY few bands that release things for free that really have any sort of life on the road.
Actually, I take that back, this is the best free album I have ever heard, and maybe one of the most beautiful and complex albums I've ever heard period. http://www.paxcecilia.com/
I think that such bands are those who deserve showing support especially if they are making good music
^ Yeah....but the World is one big illogical place. Everybody knows how things should be but they never are.
What's the big Deal, living off music doesn't have to be the only way of earning a living, You can have another job and still release records and organize non-profit gigs! that's the way lots of band do here in Chile, including mine. now, that's what I call INDIE.
Uaral are a very good doom/folk band, and their second album is free to download from Last FM. http://www.last.fm/music/Uaral/Lamentos+A+Poema+Muerto
Thanks guys, I'm really enjoying all of the suggestions, especially Maudlin of the Well and The Pax Cecilia. May I also suggest The Morningside's album entitled 'The Wind, the Trees and the Shadows of the Past'- really good album, not far removed from some of agalloch's stuff.
