It took a while to find a fifth album allowing me to participate in this round. Originally, I had in mind to start my post with "And now for something completely different", but after Serjeant Grumbles posted his list, this statement would be incorrect.
1. Madder Mortem - Eight Ways
2. Bergtatt - Røtter
3. Ava Inferi - Blood of Bacchus
4. Candlemass - Death Magic Doom
5. Isole - Silent Ruins
I've been super busy the past few weeks and been lucky to listen to one album per day. Gonna post a preliminary top 10, mostly unranked. If I have time before the thread
Edit: Finally had time to listen to a bunch of music. Will further refine my rankings if I have time to do one or two relistens before this closes.
1. Arckanum- PPPP
2. Nokturnal Mortum- Voice of Steel
3. Arizmenda- Within the Vacuum of Infinity
4. Ulcerate- Everything is Fire
5. Obscura- Cosmogensis

10. Drudkh- Microcosmos
Altar of Plagues- White Tomb
The Chasm- Farseeing the Paranormal Abysm
Heaven and Hell- The Devil You Know
I appreciate you being the only other person to vote that album, but, really?
it wouldn't be a crimsonfloyd post without a typo/spelling error or two. weird given he's by far the most intelligent person on the board, and perhaps the entire world
I've got a full list now - moving my previous one up here. I'll probably make a few more edits, but it feels reasonably complete.
Slough Feg - Ape Uprising! (The only album from this year that I find just plain satisfying without being annoying or repetitive in some way.)
Dream Theater - Black Clouds and Silver Linings (One of DT's less offensive albums, and probably the most daydreamy for me out of everything on this list. "Wither" is my favorite song - it gets its concept across concisely, without dragging on like most of the other songs.)
While Heaven Wept - Vast Oceans Lachrymose (Some beautiful moments here, especially on the first song, but it gets pretty repetitive after a while.)
Megadeth - Endgame (Pretty mediocre by Megadeth's standards, but still solid, and the occasionally intelligent lyrics are a breath of fresh air given this year's offerings. There had to be at least *one* metal band tapping into the political zeitgeist of 2009, for fuck's sake.)
Drudkh - Microcosmos (I'm not a big BM fan, but Drudkh is less abrasive than most, and very hypnotic.)
Isis - Wavering Radiant (Isis rarely impresses me, but I love their atmosphere all the same. Nothing stands out to me here versus their other albums.)
Cobalt - Gin (One of the more unique BM artists I've heard. The guitar's very clear in the mix, and rocks hard in a refreshing sort of way.)
Amorphis - Skyforger (I fucking love "Sky Is Mine", and there's nothing offensive about the rest of the album, though it's a bit emo overall.)
Wolves in the Throne Room - Black Cascade
Mastodon - Crack the Skye (These guys are interesting songwriters, but the vocals are really lame and annoying, and so prominent in the mix that it spoils my enjoyment of the instruments.)
This is literally one of the very few albums ever that has an instrumental version, lol.
1. Vektor- Black Future
2. Obscura - Cosmogenesis
3. Nokturnal Mortum - Voice of Steel
4. Mastodon - Crack The Skye (Disc 2)
5. Altar of Plagues - White Tomb
6. The Chasm - Farseeing The Paranorm
7. Slough Feg - Ape Uprising
8. Gorod - Process of a New Decline
9. Absu - Absu
10. Diablo Swing Orchestra - Sing Along Songs For the Damned and Delerious.
I hope we don't end up with Black Future and Ape Uprising ranked adjacently to one another. That would have unfortunate implications.
I agree, considering that Slough Feg album is superior.
To say the least.
i know yoda doesn't like thrash but this is a bad opinion
