There are very few accurate records about a single person from 2000 years ago. On the other hand, it would be extremely difficult to erase the extermination of millions from history. It's a completely different matter.
It's pretty easy to figure this one out, if you understand that the total population of Europe during the primary period of Christianization aspired to a hundred million and was probably significantly less. There is simply no conceivable way a fifth of the population was killed in order to spread Christianity. Typically, a lord would convert, order his subjects to convert, and maybe kill a couple firebrands who resisted. There are cases of mass resistance (especially the Gauls), but those are rare.
I don't really see what you're saying here. You said that the Church had done more shitty things than the Nazis. If we agree that the pinnacle of shittiness is torturing and killing people, we will find that the Nazis tortured and killed more people than the Church.
Yes, if you read my first post in this thread that was actually my principle objection to paganism.

Yep. But then again pretty much any discussion on the internet turns into that, haha. I don't bash christianity just because of the awful stuff they've done throughout history, I realize Pagan's and mostly every other religion/society throughout history has had examples of violence and wrong doings towards other people. I hate christianity from personal experience, all the stupid close minded retards who I've met who have been big christians, all the preachers and churches who me and my dad have done work for who have ripped us off or just openly said we don't feel we should have to pay you because we're a church. Of course that doesn't mean that every christian is an asshole or horrible person but from my experience most of them are. I think religion just starts wars and re-enforces differences between people and does no good whatsoever, religion doesn't teach morality, common sense does. I don't think you need teachings from religion to show you how to live or act. If you need the bible or any other holy book to tell you not to steal shit and kill babies then you're an idiot. I live my life based on logic. Most other people do too, except when it comes to religion. I believe science will disprove god one day, it's just a shame I probably won't be around to see it.

Actually I think you will find that I didnt say that....someone else may have but just because I was primarily addressing you does not necessarily make me agree with them (the "me against the world" fallacy)

and a good objection it is.....one of the principal reasons I do not closely align myself to any religion. I may feel more kinship with one group than another, but I'm not really a part of any spiritual group.

anyway, why is it that these threads always end up in arguments?

Actually that was me that grouped Nazis with Christians. Were Nazi's worked and tortured people for about 30 years. Christians did it for about 1700 Years and Are still murdering Indigenous peoples because their God tells them to.

Actually, I just forget who's who and assume that whoever objects to a counterargument is the one I was addressing. My bad.

    Because we're on the internet.

Right. You've threatened me and told me that I'm funny. You've also failed to respond to my arguments in any way. It's not like I'm keeping score or anything, but I appear to be winning.

I can agree with that. My three things in life are to always treat others with respect....always keep your word because without that your nothing...and family comes first in everything. Never needed a bible or a preacher to teach me that. Do I hate christians? No,my brother is a christian, and where we dont necessarily see eye to eye on that, never once has he tried to change what I believe. He understands why I feel the way i do and leaves it at that. Which gives me hope since he is from the recent high school graduate generation, that maybe just maybe people will begin to be a little bit more open minded and accepting.

Hmmm.... It appears that whilst I have been absent (no I was not slaughtering christians or fighting bears, actually my ex wife does qualify) the thread has taken on a life of its own... This is a good thing but remember my first post where it says that vitriol is not necessary??

I will be going over the posts and responding in kind at a more convenient time soon as I am at work at the moment (another bear, my boss, is finishing his meal of catholic chowder and eying me off) and cannot be on the net for prolonged periods.

Keep up the posting but try and keep it to an acceptable level without resorting to insults as no matter what your creed we are all better than that, some of you sound like prests fighting over a 10yo boy...

Actually I can't remember exactly what I meant at the time, but when I say religion I guess I am refering to a fairly large group of people who follow a certain belief system...the problem I have with religion in general is that even within one of these large groups there are quite a variety of individual beliefs, and often a whole religion (large group) is judged by the actions of a smaller group within that religion. A good example of that is people who automatically assume that someone wearing a pentagram is worshiping the devil. This is why I prefer to, say, wear a Thor's hammer as a symbol of respect for my ancestors and others beliefs than because I am actually pagan/asatru/whathaveyou. (which as I said before I'm not.) By living in the name of a religion you are saying that you will own up to what has been done in the name of that religion, both the good and the bad. I don't particularly feel that way about any religion I've been in contact with, but I could easily change my views if I did find such a group.

I think there is a name for the sort of belief system I have but it escapes me atm.

Oh and well I'm at it I should point out that when I'm arguing on here most of the time I'm just playing the devil's advocate.....I don't really like to publicise my true beliefs on most matters :)
