I only JUST realised that this gig "starts" at 7pm, and I have class today from 9am til 9pm. Looks like I'm missing my last class, or at least, most of it.

Does ANYONE know what time the first band is meant to start?

My quick review of the Brisbane gig:

Ringing ears, sore throat, sore feet - but a great night.

Opening band Sedition were pretty ordinary - why, why, WHY would a local opening act, that have 30 minutes to impress people, do a cover of 2 MINUTES TO MIDNIGHT?????? Seriously, 90% of the crowd there (which was probably around 200+) would have heard Maiden do it in the flesh recently. I was bemused.

Vanishing Point came on at about 9.05 and played a 45 minute, 8 song set. Heaps of energy, marred somewhat by a pretty muddy mix which was unfortunate. Their music is quite technical and intricate, and it loses its grandeur if the mix is crap.

A nice quick changeover saw the Helloween FOR THOSE ABOUT TO ROCK/GAMBLING WITH DEVIL intro kick in at about 10.15pm. High energy set, great song list (one glaring ommission from the new album though) saw them finish a bit after midnight.

All great showmen - Weiki was the epitome of cool, Sacha bounced around making faces, Markus too, and Andi is a great frontman.

Got a few photos (http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=15342&l=f2be7&id=510334363) and a video (just one song - got told off for taking video, not sure if that was a band-thing or a venue-thing) which I'll post later.

And as far as merchandise goes - not much. Two different tour shirts - one colourful one with the Gambling cover on the front, and tourdates on the back, and one black shirt with white writing on the front (nothing on the back) with some dice and Hellish Rock world tour on it (which I bought - looks very cool). They also had a girlie shirt of some kind. The shirts were $35 each.

Note that you should check the size when you buy - as they seem very 'generous'. I bought a Medium and its pretty big on me!

EDIT: And here is the video I sneeeeaked:

Awesome stuff Dallas, thanks for the review. I'm so pumped for tomorrow night, can't wait.

Your right about shirt sizes, there getting way to big for some reason. I had the same problem with one of the Maiden tour shirts I bought, its an XL but seemed like a XXL when I first wore it.

How was the turn out by the way, many people?

I felt that considering all the gigs that have just been (eg. Maiden, Nightwish, Soundwave festival etc.) or are still to come (Mayhem, WASP, Whitesnake etc), that the turnout was pretty good.

Probably 200-300 people I guess? I would expect Sydney and Melbourne will get a LOT more of course - especially since Melbourne get Vanishing Point AND Black Majesty as supports!!

I wish I was going to Melbourne :( ESPECIALLY after enjoying the Brisbane show so much!! It totally exceeded my expectations - and since I've been a fan for 19 years, my expectations were pretty damn high :p

But unfortunately, due to the aforementioned ridiculous amount of tours this year, I couldn't afford to do the interstate thing for HELLOWEEN.

Just spoke to Stuey - got me a GWTD signed by the band (minus Andi as he doesn't do signings apparently!).

    SWEEEET :D

According to someone at the signing today, approx. 450 tickets have been sold for the Sydney show tonite, and about 900 for Melbourne tomorrow night.

Maybe you don't get out to local gigs but we've pretty much always played an Iron Maiden cover when we play live. Collectively, it's our favourite band and the more Maiden the better as far as we're concerned.

Hopefully that clears up some of the bemusement.

    Quoting our myspace;

"Hey guys, great gig last night, I really loved the cover of 2 "Minutes to Midnight" as well as the bass solo, that was mad!"

Amazing stuff tonight, blew me away, the venue was pretty full, the band was on fire.

Pain Division were pretty good, felt like there was something missing, I think when Jordan played the 2nd guitar, it sounded a bit more meatier so to speak, don't get me wrong, the boys played a solid set and I enjoyed it!

Black Majesty were pretty good as well, didn't see heaps, but what I heard I liked.

Got one of Sacha's picks thanks to my mate Mick, so I was happy!

    Good night all in all!

Thanks for that the_sinner - first time I've seen you guys, so bemusement removed :D To each his own, but I would have preferred to hear another of your originals as opposed to a cover :)

ImprintedLife - AWESOME!! GREAT to hear that there was a good turn out. Really wish I was going to Melbourne.
