I am in the process of adding all my stuff to my Metal Archives account.

It's a really smooth way of keeping track and while doing it I am re-discovering albums that I barely listened to when they came out.

Let's see a list of your collections and rate each others taste...

RYM is my best friend. I think it’s possible to export your data as .txt so I’ll post my stuff later.

I have never done this, but always wanted to.

On the shelves they are alphabetical by artist.

    i don't, not anymore

i had a home-coded solution at one point: http://algol.nu/~erik/lista.php but it is now really out-of-date (EDIT: and i see now that it breaks with newer versions of php, welp)

i started a rateyourmusic account and added quite a few albums before becoming bored

so i have no idea what the hell i have anymore, but most of my cd's are alphabetically and then chronologically sorted, at least

The great thing about metal-archives is that the artist and item is already there, all you need to do is to click tools and -> add to your collection. I added about 200 releases in half an hour using an old list of mine I found online.

Maybe it only works for me who own 1? cd that is not metal :D

rateyourmusic is very handy in the same way, it also allows for star ratings and reviews of your music

    http://rateyourmusic.com/~egj

this is not updated in any way, and it has less than half of my stuff listed

maybe i'll get around to updating it some day if i'm in the mood for tedious data entry

I keep mine up to date but I'll probably never have much more than 600-700 CDs so that's manageable

    i fucking love statistics

    comedy option:

literally everything in life is a waste of time by definition so the choice between different activities is ultimately arbitrary and meaningless

I tried starting a list years ago and didn't make it through the A's. I bore too quickly (that means two things).

I use(d) excel back in the day. With a few hours of effort, I could probably be up to date with it.

it amazes me more people don't use discogs. it's great to find exact versions, pressings, etc. it's easy to list your collection and keep it updated. plus, it's a good place to buy as well.

I used cd-tracker until they stopped it. I just have my collection alphabetized, chronologically, and by genre (broadly speaking - Metal is all one section).

Well that looks interesting. Maybe I will go go over to using this.
In fact I will do that since it has so much info about different releases.
