Really crappy lead, but the tone I really like. I've heard quite a few other bands get something similar (Meshuggah, Dream Theater, etc) and I just never understood how to get remotely close. Sounds super mid-heavy but there's something about it that I can't put my finger on.

Can anyone give me some pointers?

Doesnt sound all that different from a normal lead tone. Maybe double tracked.

Sounds like it's filtered heavily, hardly any content above 5K, or under 150

Mids on 11, then use a computer microphone on a 1x12 in an untreated closet. That should get you started.
