Did I tell ye I almost got suckered into a $1700 48 month service warranty? I got such a swell deal on the car that at the time the thought of a warranty to cover my tranny or engine going kaput felt reasonable. Especially given the fact that it only amounted to a few hundred shillings a year. Well my Credit Union sliced a thousand off the cost and offered me the same warranty for around $600. This didn't go over to well with the slimey F & I guy, who then promptly left a message on my phone stating that I would have to sign a new contract for the vehicle. I basically sent the shill a scathing email telling him to pound sand, and carry forth with the paperwork set in motion from the original contract. Fucktwit never bothered to retort. Slimey fuck!

2011 model year Mazda got top marks from Consumer Reports a few years ago. If I recall correctly, they were right up there with Toyota, Honda, and Subaru. In fact, I think they might've been tied for first place overall. They are boring as hell and only care about reliability, safety, and comfy bullshit.

Tonight I spent 2 hours in the garage replacing a blown motor mount on my wife's 2011 Mazda 3. Her car has 48,249 on the odometer, and it has been absolutely babied since mile number 8. I talked to the service dude at ye olde local Mazda dealer today, he said that, on average, at least one Mazda 3 is in there for a blown motor mount..............every single day.

Carousel is a lie. I should've known all along. Fuck this shit, I'm buying a Challenger Hellcat and voting for [Voldemort].

I recall reading the same thing. I even looked at a couple of brand new 3s around that time.

Funny you mention the Challenger. A dealer here had several SXTs advertised for about $6000 off sticker last weekend. Seriously, they were going for like $23,500. I thought about going to check one out but got bored and...just....well....didnt.

    Bump for dorian.

A little while ago Dad died so I bought his Subaru. AKA: took over the final payments from Mom because she hasn't driven in years. 2015 Impreza wagon with the CVT. I have never been so happy to drive a slow boring car for a pretty awful reason, considering he died real suddenly. Turns out I didn't miss the speed/fun of my WRX, I just wanted an AWD wagon. This thing has butt warmers and is my first automatic ever. I feel fuckin' fancy as fuckin' fuck!

Actual conversation I had with Dad about a month after he bought the car:

Me: "Hey so that thing has a CVT, right? How do you like that?"
Him: "Hey you don't get the car until I'm dead!"

Well, he was right, although probably thought he'd put more than 8k miles on it before I took it over. Carries all my basshit and the dog with ease, getting up to 37mpg.

    wagons > trucks

Jeep is paid off. I fixed the last leak with 3 cents worth of teflon and about 7 minutes of my time. Holy fuck I love Uhmerican engineering. If swearing at it doesn't work, hit it with a hammer. Barring that, just ignore it until you buy something new. It'll be fine until then. I tell Ripley (the dog) that she knows I love her because I use the same towels on her as I do the Jeep.

Wife still has the Mazda. She will drive that thing until it rots into the ground. Only 80k miles and 8 years old but drives like 150k and 15. Oh well what do you want for $18k brand new. Paid off, she's happy, who gives a shit.

I was going to buy myself a Dodge Challenger for my 40th bday but instead I bought an $80 Blu Ray player and even though the first one was a dud the warranty replacement is pretty killer. Free shipping all 3 ways, cool.

    Okay your turn Jonathan.

awesome bump! lol @ "just ignore it until you buy something new"

I cant fucken believe its been over three years since I made that post above. I *still* look at Challengers about every other week. I also came *this* close to buying a Gti two weeks ago.

I also regularly look at Golf R, E-class sedans, Ram trucks, Wranglers, Volvo V90s, the list goes on. I'm insane.

My current ride? A '17 Corolla Eco. haha. 40,000 miles later and all I've paid for (uhh...other than the car) is maybe $100 in air and oil filters and oil. It gets about 40 mpg overall. My current tank is at 45 mpg. It's mindnumbingly boring yet remarkably effective in its purpose. It's even had me looking at Avalons and ES350s for a more upscale experience of the same raison d'être.

    Help.

I actually wish I was more practical and went for a 4-door, hatchback Civic rather than my 6-speed V6 Accord Coupe EXL. It would have to still be a manual though. Eh, when this fucker rots to the ground, I'll go that route. It won;t be for a long-ass fucking time though.

Planning to trade out the ol' Accent for a new Jeep Renegade within the next couple weeks. New nose, new apartment, may as well blow more money on a new car, weeeeee.

(I wanted a Compass, hubs insists on the Renegade)

They don't make the souped-up V6 EXL coupe anymore?!?!?!

    Edit: Just checked....nope..WTF?!?!

edit2: Do they even make a V6?! All I see are the I-4cyl. Dayum, they probably don;t even make manual transmissions anymore.

Driving a 2018 Nissan Rogue SV at the moment. Nothing to get excited about, but it serves its purpose very well. Slow, but the AWD system is solid, and you can fit A LOT OF SHIT in the back- especially with the rear seats down. NAD, I was surprised to see you mention CVTs without any negativity. I mean they're fine at the moment, but just absolutely inferior to regular geared transmissions (auto or standard). I have driven a Mitsubishi, a Honda, a Subaru, and my Nissan (all with CVTs). I experienced the same slow acceleration and jerkiness in all of them. They rev up like crazy and make a lot of noise, which doesn't really bother me. Luckily this is a lease, so I'm not too worried about failure. The MPG savings are negligible, so it just seems to me that the auto industry switched to something which is cheaper for them all while charging the same amount for a car. My buddy has a 2017 Impreza wagon and the CVT failed at 7,000 miles. It was fully covered by the warranty, but that's a scary thought. The dealership told him that "they haven't worked out all of the kinks yet".

I think I like the CVT because everyone else hates them. Plus, I drive the manual Jeep most of the time anyhow.

I never liked regular automatics at all. They feel like pretenders to the throne. At least a CVT knows that it sucks.

FULL DISCLOSURE: I paid $4,000 for the Subaru and it was worth $15,000 at the time. Saving $11,000 is probably the only way I'd willingly purchase a car without a clutch pedal. So that absolutely biases my thoughts. "Damn this car is such an appliance. Yeah but what a deal!" *drives Jeep instead*

Fair enough! I apologize if I sound like a dick... I would totally haven taken that deal as well. Although my friend got a dud of an Impreza, I have read that Subarus have some of the best CVTs available. Won't be long before these are the only option when buying a car...

it’s weird, i think citroen is one of very few euro makes that never had any sort of american presence (to my knowledge)

despite having made cars since 1919 and being really quite a big deal over here

I wish I had a Citroen. They are cool. I want a Megane RS.
Another cool French car is Alpine.

Hey Adrian, how's the ol' Jeep holding up? I've gone through my entire cycle of vehicles I want and now I'm back to Wranglers. I almost went to buy one today but puss'd out lol
