Just keep listening to BG. At first I didn't like them because of the Hansi. Then, as I heard them more, they grew on me. Now they're one of my top 5. Same thing happened with CoB.

Check out Twisted Tower Dire. They have song titles like "Axes and Honor," but they are influenced by maiden-ish metal. So, it's a good mix between the two types of metal. www.twisted-tower-dire.com

Believe it or not, this isn't the first time I've seen BG bashing coupled with defending Rhapsody...it is still a conundrum that few can try to solve.

Actually, I was considering getting that. So it's good, then?

BTW, Demonspell, I wasn't bashing BG. They're good at what they do, I just don't like it.

Try Scythia... They made this crazy medieval tavern video featuring a dwarf and a wizard. It's a lot of fun and they can shred some Celtic melodies:

You can't beat Gamma Ray for this genre. 2 great guitarists, fast drumming and unusally good lyrics for a German band of this nature. Led by Kai Hansen of early Helloween taking his band in the direction Helloween should have gone which I suspect is why he left to form a new band of his own.
    Land of the Free
    Somewhere Out In Space
    Powerplant
    No World Order
are 4 excellent consecutive albums released at their impressive peak.

A 12 year old thread resurrection. Amazing.
