It's not as bad as the last one really. I got pretty excited when I first heard it, and even wrote a semi favorable review on this forum. But Anders just CAN'T sing, and the album is too repetive and thus lacks longevity.

If In Flames hadn't had such a history of writing strong material I bet a lot of people would like this new sound more, but everyone keeps hoping they put out more kick-ass whoracle style riffage when they're obviously trying to maintain a more mainstream sound.

It's great that they're exposing people to the underground in that respect but realistically their old material had enough melody and was catchy enough that given the proper airplay kids would go crazy over it. Which is why this sudden streak of crappy albums is so dumbfounding in my opinion. Sure they want more fans, and sure this sound is what people are more used to hearing. But if they put out an album BETTER then the mainstream sound and managed to expose people to it, wouldn't it be more effective then just copying the formula everyones heard before? Seems to me an album like The Jester Race would have exploded if it was played all over mtv side by side with the rest of the crap out there. But that's my opinon.

Well the new album is a hell of alot better than the last one, but it is still quite mediocre. One puts the record on, and before one knows it, its over, nothing really exceptional or even noteworthy was heard, just painless mediocrity.

I got the record when it came out, having heard sound clips here & there, they did
set out to make something that sounds NU-METAL, though I wouldn't say it sounds like Korn. While the record isn't spectacular, it's better than that heaping pile of mule shit called "Passenger." I get a kick of people tearing bands up for this, that & the other, we're all guilty of this, and you know what? No matter what bands say, they do care what the fans think. They'll get back on track next record(I Hope).

why can't people say "he sometimes sounds whiny"? why does it always have to be a korn comparison? what do you think an average metalhead will take worse - "anders sounds whiny", "anders sounds like jonathan davis".... ah whatever, its a "meh" album, but i really don't see why its necessary to always compare it to korn, especially since the music doesn't sound at all like korn, and since he only sounds whiny on a few tracks

I gotta admit, i dont mind the cd...some of it's pretty catchy, but it's really nothing special. The video to their latest song is fucking terrible imo, when i see it i just think 'nu'...and that's not good. :(

maybe becuase the whole world knows metallica, and metallicahas millions of dollars. whereas in flames is only moderately successful, no one is too pissed off that these guys want more money by diluting their sound.

I sincerely doubt that they would ever record another "Jester Race," which is, from my personal perspective, their only truly exceptional album. It appears to me that they're more than complacent with their current status, despite our chagrin. My advice; move on.

I think I'm going to lay off this time, I really can't be bothered. I think I summed up matters in the Your Reviews forum.

anony; fact is, Anders sounds too uncannily like Jonathan Davis now for Korn comparisons to be anything but inevitable. The music may not be very similar, but the vocals are pathetic....on both sides.

the only 2 in flames albums i have are colony (which i love) and clayman (which is OK). i saw a video for a song on the new album on headbangers ball the other night...and i thought it blew.

what are the essential in flames albums? or, if i like colony, which others would i like?

Colony's the best by far, you might like Whorcle 2nd best, but no IF album can touch Colony imo, TJR is quite overrated
