If you could substitute any pickup to put in Alexi's guitar instead of that EGM-HZ, what would you choose?

cuz people are always saying that the EGM-HZ pick-up sucks, so I wanted to see different peoples opinions on what to put instead of the EGM-HZ

not that i really care, but a dimarzio x2n would own that shitty hz, and probably be cheaper.

x2n is trebly pickup, wouldn't be good as only pickup in alder/maple/ebony guitar.

ok: he should put sd sh-8 invader like roope (good choice), or his old jackson combination j50 bc + je-1000. it worked good. a little bassy pickup (with good tone) would suit excellent, not this trebly shitty toneless crap (i forgot weak). ;)

i love my x2n in my Rhoads V, which is alder with maple neck. it is beautiful sounding. its thick, chunky, trebly, crunchy, all in one, and treble can be eq'd out if thats a big problem. its more mid happy than trebly... imo it would make a perfect 7 string pickup too, imagine an X7N! i actually don't like my x2n in my mahogony neck through Washburn as much as in the rhoads v, the washburn doesn't have as bright of a tone, and trebly and mid happy in a guitar is not a bad thing, as thats where the guitars natural frequencies lie.

ok, i understand you. everybody has own taste. i just think if you have only 1 hum on guitar (bridge) it should be a little bassier so you can have fatter tone. i think that is roope's trick and it works for me :)

How come the x2n is trebly?
In my experience and knowledge in electronics, being the x2n the passive pickup with the highest output, it can't be trebly.
There are two ways to bump up a pup's output:
a)put in stronger magnets. There's a physical limit to this.
b)Wind more turns on the coil. It's easier and more effective.
But it also increases the resistance, and impedance. Because impedance is higher if the frequency is higher, pickups with high impedance should lose treble, as an inherent part of their behaviour.

EMG 85. Chunky without being razor sharp with treble.

the pickup definately has a strong magnet. if one of my x2n's ever goes out i'm going to use it as a fridge magnet. its a good 10-15lb magnet. and its not really incredibly high impedence, for a pickup... the one in my rhoads v was measured at 14.5kohm.... but the x2n is naturally trebly and middy, if you look on dimarzio.com the bass is the lowest one on the scale...

Yeah, for a humbucker of its class, 14.5kohm is low resistance indeed.
I'll go back to my hole now :loco:
