    No you can like whatever you want, there is no either/or. Just saying that as far as pioneering SMDM, I've always leaned more towards the Carcass style.

    Carcass had this bluesy style in their songs that I completely loved. For me that's melodic death metal, not twin Iron Maiden guitar solos.

    I was responding to Karen, but that works.

    I pretty much randomly discovered ATG, liked one song and bought With Fear I Kiss the Burning Darkness. Not as big a letdown as when I did a similar thing with Entombed, but I wasn't entertained for very long.

    I did the aforementioned CDNOW/Amazon track listening with SOTS, and in the clips it sounded really cool. All I read were great reviews praising ATG for being the kings of melodic death metal, blah blah blah. I bought the cd, dug the first track Blinded By Fear, listened to a few more and liked what I heard enough to not throw the cd out the window, but that was about it. Then one day while taking a long road trip from Florida to Louisiana to see my parents I decided to listen to it all the way through. I was kinda disappointed.

    I wanted to like it as much as everyone else did, but I just couldn't. It wasn't bad by any means...it was just...meh.

    haha i played in an Entombed cover band, before that i didnt even knew em :rofl: ... we play our own songs now though
    but i love Entombed now...

    and for the opinion sake:
    i love both Carcass and ATG, but still ATG<Carcass :kickass:

    damnit reading this thread I got fucking Dismember or Amon Amarth stuck in my head, I'm not sure, but its a fucking badass riff and none of these bands make those anymore.

    Yeah, since Stockholm has all the good classic bands like Dismember, Entombed, Grave (Visby I know but Stockholm style) while all the melody shit broke out down there and poisoned the metal scene ;) I'd have the same opinion if I lived in Gothenburg though, no retarded city patriotism going on :p
