I was thinking about it but I don't really have much money atm so I'll probably be going to Ulcerate at the Stag instead.

Fuck me! $10 for a pre-mix! I thought $8.50 was a rip off (and it is).

Yeah - needless to say, I had a very DRY day at Soundwave Brisbane 2011 :p

Speaking of international tours, if anyone has any bands they really want to tour, I encourage you to fire off an email suggesting 'em to these addresses:

soundworks1@bigpond.com (currently bringing Finntroll and Alestorm out here)
frazer@redanttouring.com (currently bringing Nevermore, The Haunted and Motorhead out here)

Names I've thrown their way that I really want to see out here: Tyr, Sabaton, Epica, Iced Earth (even though I saw them all twice on 70000 Tons lol), Delain, Within Temptation, Tarot, Van Canto (they have no instruments - wouldn't cost much to bring out here!!), and Grave Digger.

I'd say Within Temptation would be a goer. The rest, not so much, especially as Iced Earth is pretty much finished as a touring band.

I beg to differ. With Barlow leaving the band (AGAIN!) I think that touring internationally is far more likely.

Part of the reason he left the band was his recognition that bands now more than ever need to tour heavily to be viable economically.

So I have a very very VERY good feeling that Iced Earth will visit Australia when they tour to support their upcoming album *crosses fingers*

    God damn pregnancies!!!!

Apparently Nightwish were meant to be on 70,000 Tons but couldn't do it due to Anette's pregnancy *growl*

My problem with IE has always been that they seem to have 1 or 2 great songs surrounded by dozens of fillers

That being said, I'd still love to see them live at least once

Melbourne still utilises the drinking tokens at Soundwave.

From what I remember, light beer, water and soft drinks was 1 token, mid strength beer was 2 and full strength beer, Vodka, Jim Beam (mixed) and energy drinks were upwards of 3 to 5 tokens.

It's expensive as hell, but I guess its a good way of preventing punch ons with drunk fuckwits.

I would have if Barlow was still in the band. They're going to have to get someone really really good to spike my interest.

When I last saw NW, at the Palais in St. Kilda, I was completely and utterly bored. I was about as bored as the band. I think it was because Anette hadn't been in the band too long and they had a pretty limited setlist and whilst she's a good rock singer, she's not a great NW singer. Hoping for better next time around.

As for IE, seen them with Barlow and Ripper and both great times. They've only had a three great albums over the years (IMHO Burnt Offerings, Dark Saga, and Something Wicked) with the other albums being a mix of mostly filler and a couple of killers.

Jon has to nail their new singer though. It can't be half-arsed done or they're over with. They need fresh blood.

Not a huge Nightwish fan, but Anette shits over Tarja. God I couldn't stand her.

Seen Nightwish with Tarja 6 times (Sweden, Greece, twice in Melb, Sydney, Brisbane) and with Anette twice (Sydney and Brisbane).

Anette bopped around like a pop singer, but she radiated such an upbeat vibe I found it quite infectious.

Tarja meanwhile had the air of prima donna about her - I found it extremely irritating.

I love Anette. I would go see Nightwish wearing big earmuffs like the dudes at the airport so I could just watch her and not have to listen to their music.
