Was never interested in SWR too much, only really wanted to see Alice Cooper but I've already seen him, so eh. Have been rather amused by everyone else freaking out about the cancellation. Although it does suck for the people who had already paid for flights and such.

Don't think anyone here would be too interested, but Soundworks have announced a Children of Bodom tour in Nov.

"THE UGLY WORLD TOUR 2011" AUSTRALIA NOVEMBER

CHILDREN OF BODOM's enthralling mix of modern heavy metal, melodic hooks and the guitar acrobatics of front man Alexi Laiho have solidified the critically acclaimed Finnish band as one of the leading and largest voices of metal's new generation.
The flambouyant quintet eagerly return to Australia as part of "THE UGLY WORLD TOUR" for an explosive run of spectacular shows on the back of their latest release "Relentless Reckless Forever" to once again display why their unique union of haunting melodies, rhythmic sensibility, guitar-and-keyboard interplay and king-size solos are unmatched by anyone!

Support for these incredible shows will come in the form of the versatile and unique sounds of Perth melodic maestro's VOYAGER. Creating and combining a melting pot of incredible melodies and arrangements, this stunning 5 piece will be performing in support of their latest album "The Meaning Of I " due for release this coming October.

CHILDREN OF BODOM with Voyager performing at:

Sunday Nov 6th - Capitol, Perth
Monday Nov 7th - HQ, Adelaide
Thursday Nov 10th - The Palace, Melbourne
Saturday Nov 12th - The Big Top, Sydney
Sunday Nov 13th - The Arena, Brisbane

So how does this work? You send the band a heap of money (deposit) to see if they are interested and if not they keep the money anyway?

Thanks for the insiders Shadow. Thankfully I hadn't bought tix yet, but I was bloody close! VH+Alice+Aero would indeed have been one of the most awesome lineups in an Aussie festival ever, let alone all of the other great bands. Pity SWR overstepped themselves. Still going to see Def Leppard so that's something... and :loco: The Wiggles :loco: on the same weekend that SWR was going to happen in Perth.

Supposedly wining and dining people, sending "gifts" (as they were listed on the accounts) to show that they were serious about getting the bands out, flights to & from the US plus a whole bunch of stuff which may be dodgy.

Just lots of cash mismanagement really from the sounds of it, all to try to secure a bunch of bands which are popular but exceptionally well known for being highly unstable and breaking deals.

Has it been mentioned that Children of Bodom are touring in November?

Brisbane tickets are $94. Way beyond what I'd be willing to pay!

    EDIT: Oztix says price is $73.45 - that's a bit better :)

I had a feeling it was along those lines, sad it has to take such 'sweeteners' to even get a band interested to play here.

Dinner with a client, sure but 'gifts' really reeks and is illegal in quite a few industries (not to say it doesn't happen) though I guess they're not tendering/competing ..... or yet again maybe they are if other festivals are wanting them.

My point was you'd think they'd jump at the chance to visit Australia, play to our crowds, etc. and the 'paypacket' would be enough.

You'd think that. But you'd be wrong.

Yeah, I was hoping moreso I suppose, there are still those that think Aus. is some backwater convict country.

They always tell you on stage how much they love playing here - "Hello Springfield!"

Also Tiger Woods saying how much he loves the place only to leave via private jet the moment he stepped off the green.

The SWR debacle made mX's front page yesterday, angry FB comments included SWR was canned was because the promoter wanted to make more money from side shows.

    Financially it's probably true though

    1 show.... 10,000 people at $150 a ticket (these are bs figures) = 1.5mil
    20 shows..... 20,000 at $100 a ticket = 2mil

And that's just with figures I've pulled out of the air. I imagine that some side shows would pull more people then others... but it's still a double the attendance if somebody wants to see more then one

I'd much rather see Aerosmith than Van Halen. Oh well, we won't be seeing either!

Other people love coming to Australia, and spend a lot of time here e.g. Eddie Vedder, Mike Patton, Mike Muir.

    Also...

    GUITAR WOLF!

The ass-kicking Japanese trio Guitar Wolf – Seiji (Guitar Wolf), U.G. (Bass Wolf) and Toru (Drum Wolf) – count Dinosaur Jnr’s J Mascis, Jon Spencer, Jim O’Rourke and Lightning Bolt among their fans and will wreak havoc in December when they return with their frantic no holds bared ‘jet rock and roll’ live shows.

The distortion freaks will headline the Mere Noise Meltdown in Brisbane (with Hits, The Horrortones, Texas Tea and No Anchor); play two shows as part of The Tote’s 30th Anniversary Spectacular in Melbourne; and tear apart gigs in Sydney, Perth and Adelaide.

Fasterlouder presents Guitar Wolf ‘Spacebattleshiplove’ tour:

Friday 2nd December – The Tote, Melbourne
Saturday 3rd December – The Step Inn, Brisbane
Sunday 4th December – The Tote, Melbourne
Thursday 8th December – Jive, Adelaide
Friday 9th December – Amplifier, Perth
Saturday 10th December – The Sando, Sydney
