I tried listening to Steel Panther but I just couldn't get into them. A parody of a cringeworthy genre/era is still cringeworthy. It might've compensated for the music somewhat if I'd found them even remotely funny!
they're pretty much a joke band that forgot about the joke. and their hardcore fans, those few that I've interacted with, are often too young to understand the whole satire and those old enough to know seem to view them through the whole bullshit frame of 'nostalgia'.
Humour is a personal thing though. For example, The Simpsons and Family Guy are very popular, while I don't find them any more amusing than SBS News. To each their own and all that.
MAYHEM - 30TH ANNIVERSARY AUSTRALIAN TOUR JANUARY, 2014 When it comes to the definitive history of black metal, only one name has survived all the sensationalism. The year 2014 presents 30 years of cold, harsh existence, and MAYHEM reappear in Australia to regain the throne of darkness that is rightfully theirs. Featuring iconic members Atilla Csihar, Necrobutcher and Hellhammer, and with the reputation of being one of the most controversial live acts to ever disgrace this planet, do not miss out on this chance to witness and worship one of the true Norwegian black metal legends in the flesh. MAYHEM and local supports performing at: January 10th – The Hifi, Melbourne January 11th – The Factory Theatre, Sydney January 12th - The Hifi, Brisbane
So this is how 2014 is looking so far: JANUARY - ROTTING CHRIST, MAYHEM/WATAIN, MISFITS, WEHRMACHT/GRAVE/PRIMATE FEBRUARY - Soundwave (AMON AMARTH, ROB ZOMBIE, MEGADETH, etc) MARCH - ORPHANED LAND, DARK TRANQUILLITY
Note that WATAIN are joining MAYHEM on these three dates, and WATAIN will also do a headline gig in Perth on the 9th
Wehrmacht (USA), Grave (Sweden), and Primate (USA - members of Mastodon and Brutal Truth). January 2014. Playing pretty much everywhere Sydney date is the same night as MAYHEM/WATAIN though which will suck for some I'm sure!

Stratowhovius? Aww, bet Korpiklaani were awesome... so many good gigs I'm missing... damn no money and newborns
Given the size of our scene, it was pretty disappointing that Korpiklaani and Stratovarius were scheduled on the same night.
VERY different bands though. Not sure how much crossover there would have been. Having said that though I would have gladly attended both, and if Stratovarius had of played Brisbane I would have definitely preferenced them over Korpiklaani.
