Bit annoyed to miss The Cult, because I'm overseas for a while. Oh well, I've seen them three times before.

Opeth playing 170 Russell - that's a smaller venue than they've played previously.

*TOUR ANNOUNCEMENT* - THRASH, BLAST AND GRIND FEST - February 2017

What would an Australian summer be without a touring music fest? - Pretty bloody average to be honest! So, this summer sees the debut of the “Thrash, Blast and Grind Fest”, kicking off around Australia and New Zealand through February 2017.

The first announcement boasts Australia’s own bastard sons of grind King Parrot as the headliners, and alongside them are US heavyweight death/thrash giantsRevocation.

    Friday Feb 10 - Brisbane - The Triffid (Lic/AA)
Saturday Feb 11 - Sydney - Manning Bar
Tuesday Feb 14 - Newcastle - The Cambridge
Wednesday Feb 15 - Canberra - The Basement
Friday Feb 17 Melbourne - Max Watts
Saturday Feb 18 Perth - Amplifier
    Sunday Feb 19 Adelaide - Fowlers (Lic/AA)

    Youngy from King Parrot states:

“We’ve wanted to put on a great value tour with awesome local and international bands for sometime now. Thrash, Blast and Grind Fest has given us this opportunity. Once the full line-up is announced we’ll be proud to stand behind a new fest that is diverse, value for money and in the best venues in Australia and NZ. A true touring fest by the bands for the fans.”

“Thrash, Blast and Grind Fest” debuts at a time when there is a distinct lack of Australian heavy music festivals, and gives something back to fans and devotees of the more extreme side of music - starting from a grass roots level. Founded and curated by the bands who will be appearing, the touring fest is DIY taken to the masses.

Brett from Revocation had this to say:

“We are so excited to be returning to Australia, this time alongside King Parrot! It's been too long since we had the opportunity to shred Down Under & we are especially psyched to get back for the ‘Thrash, Blast and Grind’ Fest tour. We look forward to bringing the new material over & can't wait to hang with all of you! Cheers cunts!”

With a large 2nd announcement still to be made in the coming weeks, including national and international acts, the touring festival will also throw the stage open to a local act in each city to open the show. This is one Summer show you cannot miss!

Get your tickets now and prepare yourself for a summer of thrashin’, blastin’ and grindin’!

Tickets available from www.directtouring.oztix.com.au, the venues andwww.oztix.com.au

I went to Melbourne to see the Scorpions. I enjoyed it.
I would liked to have gone to QR+Lord as well, but I was busy that night :(

I saw internationals Ufomammut/Monolord and Guantanamo Baywatch here in Oct. Ufomammut was very loud and mesmerising. Loudest bass I've seen since Merzbow, but it suits the music.

Oh yeah: up next for me is Destroyer 666

I wish I'd been able to go to the Scorpions show. Maybe when they return in 40 years. I gather they played a bit of new stuff at the start, but the crowd warmed to the show more once they played old stuff.

Haha Bloopy of those bands I've only heard of Destroyer 666. What styles are the other bands?

It was their first tour in Australia, and their 50th anniversary tour at the same time :)

One of the main reasons I made the decision to travel to Melbourne was that it might be the only chance I get to see them. Although I think they said they will try and get back here fairly soon (next year if possible?).

Here is a crappy video I took if you are interested. I was more watching the band and not the camera. The first song is a new one and was the one that got stuck in my head in the days after.

We caught the overnight bus down and AirBNB'd the accommodation. :p
But it still would have been $200+ pp for transport and accommodation.

Guantanamo Baywatch is surf rock. The others are both sludge/doom-type stuff, which there's a lot of out there at the moment. And on that note:

    NEUROSIS
    Wellington – San Fran – Feb 14
    Auckland - Kings Arms - Feb 15
    Brisbane – The Triffid – Feb 16
    Sydney – Manning Bar – Feb 17
    Melbourne – The Croxton – Feb 18

The video turned out well enough! I like that first song. I picked up their latest album and have listened to it a lot. It'd be sweet if they could return, hopefully when I'm around next time.

Nitephyre, put the call out if in a similar bind again and one of us might be able to help a metal brother out with a spot on a mattress!
