RiP is great but a bit inconsistent. The better tracks are top notch thrash metal tho.

Rust in Peace isn't really a thrash metal album, and it shits the bed with Dawn Patrol and the title track, but I agree that the first seven have some of the finest metal songwriting in existence.

Friedman is the saving grace for that album. Shitty than shit bass tone, crappy guitar tone, Mustaine's awful voice etc etc

Take No Prisoners is easily a Top 3 track off the album

No way. Especially when you've got such songs as Holy Wars, Hangar 18 and Tornado. These are top 3 off this record.

Holy Wars, Five Magicks, and Lucretia (DAT groove) are the best.

Also, the guitar tone is awesome and a large part of what made me like it so easily as a kid. So processed and synthetic sounding it could almost fit a vidya soundtrack. Love it, perfect for the hyper-energy hyper-wank mood of the album.

Holy Wars is brilliant. I agree that the rest of the album is a bit inconsistent, though. I'd say Peace Sells is a stronger album overall.

He doesn't have a consistent album to his name. The closest he ever got was with Youthanasia and Cryptic Writings.

    How about:

    Rainbow - Rising
    Dio - Holy Diver
    Motörhead - Overkill
    Ozzy - Blizzard of Ozz
    Death - Scream Bloody Gore

    Absolute classics imo

I wish TB was around to reply to some of this nonsense about Rust in Peace. I don't have the energy to do a TB impression justice today.

Rising has one classic song and other very good ones, not really strong enough as a full album though. Holy Diver is definitely close to the pinnacle of streamlined metal songwriting. Motorhead is a classic band with no full classic albums imo. Blizzard of Ozz is great, not quite classic. Scream Bloody Gore has too many just-good songs.

    Symbolic
    Ace of Spades
    The Last in Line
    Peace Sells
    Coma of Souls

Symbolic is the best of progish-era Death, but also lacks great highs, and is just a refinement on the previous too albums anyways. Coma of Souls is so horrible.

Only Holy Diver from that list is a true classic. Never been able to get into Rising, but probably owe it another shot. Blizzard of Ozz, SBG, and Overkill are very good, but not great.
