    Hey,

I was checking the news, and saw this article on Blabbermouth. It's not really new, but I was pretty happy to see Jeff Loomis considered one of the 50-favorite-guitarists of all time by 330 guitarists. :headbang:

I miss Mustaine in there. I wonder if Chris Broderick listed Mustaine as one of his favorites? Also, which were Jeff's favorites?

WHAT?!?!?! They put the fucking AC/DC brothers in there and no Mustaine?!?!?!

Yeah, because the pentatonic minor scale is just SO fucking hard to play, and their songs are SO diverse...

I just lost respect for a whole bunch of musicians.

I think lists such as these... are bullshit. How can you possibly compare and grade players who were all so different, and did such different things with their playing? I guess it's our nature to want to categorize, organize and label groups but... how can you compare Stevie Ray Vaughn with Jeff Loomis? They're both amazing, but they're different. I don't know just my opinion. But... in reference to the list, where's Johnny Winter? Hmm?

Well... that's true, it does say favorite. I think I mistook this for a "best" guitarist list... but if it's FAVORITE, that's an entirely different ball game, so I recant.

It's asking metal bands to pick guitarists, they'll usually sway towards their own genre. Few of them are going to say that Johnny Marr is the best guitarist.

I guess the majority here missed the point. This is a list of favorites taken from the Top 10 lists of 330 guitarists.

Do you expect Jeff Loomis to be on the favorites list of Steve Howe (Yes) or Steve Hackett (Genesis) - both participated in the poll? He obviously isn't. So, it's great that he made the cut, no matter the position.

    Michael Angelo? Are you kidding?

The majority here didn't miss the point here.

These lists are ten a penny, they exist just to take up space. Sorry for being misanthropic, but they're just boring.

    Good for Jeff, regardless.

Which is why I can't believe he wasn't in there, smartass.

Of aaaaaaall those bands who chose their favorite guitarists, Mustaine was not one of them. I wasn't saying "OMG DAVE'S THE BEST!!!!"

I was surprised that someone who wrote the end solo of Holy Wars wasn't in there because that solo is a great, great solo. At least Friedman was there, though.

why did you argue against the ac/dc brothers then by saying that their music is not hard to play (meaning: doesnt require technical abilities)?

    make some sense

These lists are stupid. There's a difference between best guitarist, best guitar riff writer, best technical player, and "my favorite guitarist," all of which play some sort of role in this list.

You can't compare guitar players in this fashion.
