He had some decent solos... but in general he's just another guitarist... Also.. regarding Satch.. I don't care for him or any other guitar virtuoso out there.. the format of those songs really don't move me in any way so...
I cant stand Satriani, its cheezy happy elevator shred. O yeah and hes lame, hes just a generic blues player with a whammy bar and a shit load of delay.
I haven't heard Joe's last couple of albums, but I have all the other ones (even got the tab books for The Extremist and Crystal Planet- buggered if I can play any of it though ). He writes good songs, and his technique is pretty damn impressive too
I love to play his solos, awesome fun. I quite like his songs and his style, but I've never considered him anything truely amazing. I used to prefer Vai, but now he bores me so I'd say i prefer Satch. But instrumental guitar solo stuff doesnt interest me much these days. But at Hammett, he wrote a handful of good solos, which isnt many considering just how many solos there were in Metallica. Maybe if he'd use less pentatonic scale winding.
joe satriani is one of the smoothest and most talented guitar player hands down., he is one of the only guitarists who uses the circle picking technique, which allows him to play far smoother and faster than any other guitarist. i know a man who has his masters in jazz, country, blues, metal and funk, hes studied at berkely for 5-6 years, hes an insane guitarist and he'll tell you straight up satch has the best technique. he plays circles around guitarists like yngwie, yngwie is good but hes so unoriginal, all he does is takes classical songs and play them really fast on guitar, wow yngwie very original! satch rules!
