Yup, I also check this forum usually once a day, but only post if something interesting happens, like someone necroing a medieval thread.
when I'm bored/looking for music news I visit UM. No, I "live" at work unfortunately which is so much less fun.
Yes, he does, and he's so sanctimonious! He himself ressurected a necro thread, but he slams you for doing the same thing. Funny thing is, as you can see, there are some apple polishers who come in his rescue. Crazy, over the rainbow, he's crazy Toys in the attic..
There's a difference of quality. Granted the weekly quiz thing isn't a good example. But resurrecting the de-facto dead horse here is kind of lame.
Necroing threads is fine if the topic warrants discussion. I don't know what there is to discuss on John Petrucci, but if there is something, do go ahead.
It's just kind of a joke here. I'm not seriously interested in discussing JP and how he compares to MJR. No offense to anyone but having quite a few newcomers expressing their hate for Ken is always entertaining. Like you guys should start a thread about it or something, if there isn't one already.
I joined in October 2004. 365 days a year x 8 years till now = 2920. 17400/2920 = 5 posts a day average. I don't think I "live" on here bro.
No man, you're wrong. No hate against him. But when you run across someone that thinks he's better than everybody else and tries to intimidate other people into silence, you have to say something. Imagine the harm he has done to this forum over these 8 years, imagine the number of people that stopped posting here because of him. What he does is a disservice to the forum and, ultimately, to the band. Yes, you do. Guy, maybe you don't know, but there's life out there. Go out, breathe fresh air, have some beer and talk to people personally. That's what is called socialization. Well, in your case, I think it is going to be a longer process because it is resocialisation.
While I can understand where you're coming from Church (I admittedly had the same sort of opinion when I first started browsing this forum; Ken actually reminds me of a certain guy on another forum I visit) I think you're going about arguing your point the wrong way. In the end, forums are about expressing one's opinion, and that's exactly what he does. Sure, sometimes it may come off as being elitist with a sort of "my-way-or-the-highway" tinge, but I think that's something we all are guilty of at one point or another. Besides, there's nothing saying his word is law, so it's not like you're obligated to agree with him on anything. Frankly, if people were to stop coming here just because they couldn't deal with him, those people probably shouldn't be posting on forums to begin with. And furthermore, if you're going to respond to someone to refute an argument, it's typically never a good idea to throw out an ad hominem in defense of yourself.
^ well said and accurately ascertained, imo. If we all just agree about everything and pat each other on the back "good job ol' chap for listening to SX and liking all the same tracks as me!" then this place would be more boring than daytime TV. You want to pick on my "life" church, go ahead. I doubt everybody else wants to read about it.
Ken is cool, though he does drive me crazy sometimes. And you can't get around the fact that if he wasn't around posting what he posts the way he posts it, this place would be a lot slower than it already is, so how's that a disservice to the forum?
No but it is a much more interesting topic than the original one. I agree, it is a better forum when band members interact and not just about the constant gear questions.
I took my kids to the Dynatheater a couple weeks back. Ken and his bud can sure set up a theater. He has my props. If I wasn't home alone with the kids when he was in town, he'd have my beer too.
haha its been a couple of years since I came on here I think, and what do I see but a John Petrucci vs MJR thread. First I thought, gee, nothing has changed much, but I'd better get in there and defend JP for old times sake. Then I realised that it is actually one of those very threads, resurrected from the dead! Obviously nothing much is happening...
