how many people on this forum work in the music industry / are musicians?
Drummer here. Dabble in guitar and keyboards as well. I had a hair metal band back in the good ole days.
I 'volunteer' my time in music promotions
but after tomorrow, I'll be working in music management... band management to be precise.
Lets see my day job is with a Fortune 500 company, it pays the bills right now, but I am also involved as one of the co-directors of TEXAS MADFEST, and this is my second year as a sponsor for PP. When I retire this year i will be doing full time promotions and productions, and also still helping NIGHTMARE records.
see this thread
I work for a Fortune 500 company too, but it's as exciting as watching grass grow. My dream is to work in the music industry full-time someday.
It was a dream at one time but now I work for a real estate company and one night a month at a Rock Club.
which rock club. We still haven't met up yet, though we seem to go to the same gigs.
i'm a drummer (link-The Last Van Zant-link) and by a day a mild mannered sign designer.
...and you had HAIR too! whoa!
I don't work in the music business, but I hope to some day. I do a lot of volunteer type stuff, though. I help run a local music venue, set up bands/host the weekly live bands that we play on my college radio station, and I'm an in-training DJ at the same station.
guitar and bass player here
Software Engineer by day, crazed prog metal guitarist by night! Back in the late 80s, I worked in a few different record stores and a music distributor.
Guitarist in search of.....Also been a stage tech, stage manager, guitar tech, bringer of beer, problem solver, photographer and former asshole.
Damn! Beat me to it!
I've tech'ed, played, and currently do stringed instrument repairs/mods as a second source of income, as well as just another "hobby".
cool cool. I guess I should give you my background since I'm the one who brought it up....
I do music publishing for a recording artist, as well as sample clearance for a lot of hip-hop albums and artist development. Guitar is my main thing too... gig around and do some session work.
any of you guys in atlanta?
When school isn't in session, I live in Peachtree City, and while school is going on I live right in Midtown.
If anyone need any of the above, please let me know. Would be happy to provide my resumee and samples. =) \m/
I used to play classical music (piano) and perform in a youth orchestra (violin). That's the limit of it.
