    Hey guys!

Since Kemper said they improved the profiling process in the latest firmware update, I did some testing before updating during the last profiling session.

2.42 because I hadn't updated to 2.5, but I think this shouldn't matter too much for this cause.

So for all the people interesting in how the profiling sounds compared to earlier versions, here you go.

    https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/3961577/Mago-Kemper Firmware 2_6 vs 2_42 Comparison.zip

You'll get 6 mono wav files (3 stereo pairs).
If you don't want to listen to it in stereo in your DAW then just compare the Left (L) tracks, they have more playing at the beginning.

    I did the following:

    -Profile the rig with 2.42
    -Reamp through that profile (2.42)
-Reamp through the reference amp (reference amp)
    -Update to 2.6
    -Profile with 2.6
    -Reamp through the 2.6 profile.

I didn't change the settings or mic position on the amp.
For refining I used the same method on both profiles (the one Sam Pura showed during his creative live class).

Normally I would have recorded reamp through the microphone into the preamps of my interface, for the original sound of the setup.
But the preamps seem have taken a hit lately and act weird.
That's why I had to record through the reference amp on the kemper.
So it's not as scientific as it could be, sorry! :p

IMO 2.6 sounds closer to the amp and gets the lows and low mids closer. The mids seem to work a bit different as well, less squishy and less forward.
Overall also closer to the amp.

I'll have to get used to not dial in more lows than I normally would for profiling though hehe

Interesting, I don't own a Kemper and I am still pondering buying one. But to my ears, 2.6 gets closer to the reference too. Not 1:1 but definitely closer.

Yeap, 2.6 is closer than 2.4. although not really 100% spot on but really close.
    Nice test!

What's it like taking the profile from 2.4 and loading it in 2.6 with the LFC enabled?

Good point, I forgot to test that!

I'd say 2.4 with LFC has more lows than without, but not as many as 2.6 has. Seems more like a subtle bass boost.
Like if you raised the bass on the tonestack by 0.5 to compansate, you can drop it down to zero now.

low mids aren't as much affected as in 2.6 though.

now also with the LFC ON.
also now it's the actual mic track. Seems my pres wheren't faulty, but the Kemper boosted the Highs somehow, even if I didn't have any stomp eq, onboard eq, or tonestack set.
Didn't change anything from reamping the next time, but the profiles suddenly sounded like the mic track (which I think sounded different because the mic pres was acting up).

    So now it's:

    -MIC
    -Profiled with 2.42
    -Profiled with 2.6
-Profile of 2.42 with 2.6 and LFC ON

Because of that treble boost during the first session I compensated with pretty dull settings and mic position. So the tone has a lot of lows not needed. At least you'll hear what the kemper does to the low and that way a bit more. ^^

The MIC file sound so much thicker and in your face.

On a super fast listening, the differences are small. Would be happy to work with any of this sounds. The Mic sounded the best for me, but the 2.6 what pretty damn close.
i woulndt mind playing with this profiles =P

one is the one made in 2.6, the other with the older one.
You'll have to boost some highs and tame some lows and low mids though. I'd prefer it to be clearer to begin with, but you can get it to work.

I think I already got profiles closer to the mic, but for the sake of comparison I used the same method for refining on both profiles.
