After finishing off a very eventful and busy past year of promotions for their previous album release, “Bilateral”, acclaimed Norwegian Progsters LEPROUS had directly entered studios to start the recordings for their next album after wrapping up their “European Progressive Assault” headlining tour in September-October 2012.

The new album is entitled “Coal” and will be released on May 20th, 2013 in Europe and May 28th, 2013 in North America via InsideOutMusic.

LEPROUS singer / synth-player Einar Solberg comments on the release as follows:

"With our upcoming album "Coal" I feel we are one step closer to a personal expression. Heidi Solberg Tveitan and Vegard Tveitan of Mnemosyne were the producers of this album, together with LEPROUS. They helped us a lot with reaching the full potential of the songs, and the album would not be equally good without their expertise. Jens Bogren and Tony Lindgren @ Fascination Street Studios mixed the material and have made this album shine like nobody else could.

I see less interest in defining music than in creating music, but I will give a short overview on what to expect...

"Coal" is a more melancholic and darker album than the more playful "Bilateral". By darker I don't mean more aggressive, but more severe. There is still a big range in the dynamics, but no jumping between different moods within a song. We cannot wait to show this album to the world!"

Check out a studio-video from the drum recording sessions for “Coal” here:

Really can't wait for this. Only got into Leprous about 6 months ago, but literally haven't stopped listening to Bilateral since then. Glad to see that their new album is coming sooner this year than I was expecting.

I remember hating their first album. I just listened to the title track from their second though...and it was really cool. Is that album more or less the same vein as that track?

Guess I should really give them another chance.

Somewhat similar imo, but I actually think it's my least favorite on the album. I really do think it's great from beginning to end.

Easily my most-waited album of the year, if not the decade :)

Such a FANTASTIC week for Leprous news - they announced their first ever club show in Finland just today too :headbang:

LEPROUS Unveil Artwork For Coal; Shooting New Video

Acclaimed Norwegian Progsters LEPROUS are soon to release their much anticipated new album Coal on May 20th in Europe and May 28th in North America via InsideOutMusic.

Now, the band is revealing the cover artwork for Coal, conceived no other than acclaimed American artist Jeff Jordan, who already took care of the previous album release Bilateral and also worked for bands like THE MARS VOLTA.

The band comments about the artwork: “The artwork for this album was a hard nut to crack. We wanted something dark, melancholic but with a distinct character. We tried several solutions without finding the perfect supplement for the music, before we decided to contact Jeff Jordan once again. Jeff immediately had wonderful ideas that we decided to pursue. The artwork of Coal" is in my opinion the most iconic we've had so far.

Check out the artwork for Coal below:

In other news, Leprous just shot a video-clip for the new album’s track ‘The Cloak’ and, most suitably for the album’s theme, the video was shot in a mine and should be launched around May.

The band comments about the video: A new Leprous video is in the making! We spent one very long day inside the Konnerud Hill Mines here in Norway, getting some very interesting footage. The video, just like the clip for ‘Restless’ on our previous album, was made by Twichty Films once again, but we promise you no fish or cake was harmed this time around. A dark, moist atmosphere, far into the deep…"

The U.S. site doesn't specify - does the package with the shirt include the limited edition with the bonus tracks? Thought I should make sure.
