those songs arent heavy because there's no emotion behind them, really. heaviest:
This is probably the heaviest song I know, but it also has a lot of quiet parts, which make the heavy parts that much more crushing. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ElFKj-T-9Go&feature=PlayList&p=C2FB4FB2C49E15C5&playnext_from=PL&playnext=1&index=53[/ame] I know it's pretty long, but when that second heavy part comes in, it's like a 10 ton hammer to the face.
Heavy for me is rather about being slow/midpaced and plummeling. Immolation - Majesty of Decay is a song that I find heavy since it's headbangworthy deluxe in that kinda tempo.
Why do I have a feeling that the only two people in this thread that might even come close to 'heavy' are Kevin and Max? Those lads know what they're talkin' 'bout!
Agreed there. Hell if anything the slower something is, the heavier I feel it is. Blast beats =/= Heavy, they make songs sound more trebley if you ask me.
^ Definately. That's probably why I posted that Mono song - just slow enough to be absolutely crushing.
Morkobot. My current newest favorite band of all time of the moment. 2 bassists and a drummer. And a lot of dope. HEAVY.
Wow, what awful definitions you guys are employing, sorry. That kid from Israel who posted his video made me crack up actually. That simply isn't a heavy song in any way shape or form. Since when is 'slow' heavy? Am I too old school or something, to say it's fucking OBVIOUS that speed, tuning, blasting, etc are what makes a song fucking heavy? At least heavy in the OBJECTIVE sense that gives criteria for us to judge. The slower the song the heavier? C'mon. Surely you will see this is not a good criteria. Would you call, for example, Engines of Hate, or Born, just to use Nevermore, 'heavy' songs? Yes, you would. Is anyone here prepared to say that Passenger, much slower in delivery, is 'heavier' than they are? It would be ridiculous. Too much subjectivity comes with judging heaviness by anything other than instrumentation. Heavy is about balls to the fucking wall. At least for the old school. Not this new, 'heavy' in any pseudo artistic sense. I could post a fucking Elton John song and say, fuck man, this is really beautiful. It's so beautiful that the emotion it invokes validates it's 'heaviness' lol. C'mon. Post some crazy ass HEAVY SHIT like old Converge, for example. That was a fucking heavy band back in the day.
Speed can equal heavy. Obviously, there's two kinds of heavy. Fast blastbeat heavy, and slow(er) low tuned riffage heavy. They're both awful, for the most part.
I completely disagree with you - blast beats and speed are not always heavy. They're cool, they're fun, yet not necessarily heavy. Probably why I don't consider most black metal bands heavy as say, Isis, or even Pantera's Walk. I mean, if speed were the deciding factor, then punk bands would probably count as the heaviest. This is heavy.
Fuck that. Blastbeats + Speed = A trebley, tinny mess. When I think "heavy" I think bass, I think crushing riffs with a sense of groove to them backed up by awesome drumming.
