I'm looking for some sad metal. Preferably something mdm or similar to mdm but anything, really. Doesn't have to be slow, but something kind of bittersweet and very melodic but still heavy, if that makes sense. For instance, something kind of like Deadsong by Before the Dawn.

Or mellow melodic death metal. Before the Dawn, the mellow-er Dark Tranquility stuff, etc. Seems like most of my mdm is faster and harsher, and less melodic sometimes.

Agalloch perhaps? Check out Ashes Against the Grain..not exactly MDM, but could fit your criteria of mellow

Yeah, you can't go wrong with Be'lakor.

Saturnus for Melodic Death/Doom - good stuff.
Novembers Doom also for Melodic Death/Doom.

agalloch and draconian are great recs. agalloch may not be completely sad, but definitely melancholy.

    i would add:

    daylight dies
    virgin black

i'll find some good youtube vids and maybe think of some more bands

Something about Silencer ~ Death - Pierce Me always seemed extremely sad and hopeless to me.

That man's demented screaming... you begin to realize there's something just... wrong with him.

Katatonia maybe. They aren't sad really, but they're melancholic.

Draconian is generic. Pass on them.

Virgin black, perfect rec. ...And I am suffering is the best song they've ever made.

Rapture - Songs for the withering (album)
    Mourning Beloveth - Dust (album)
My Dying Bride - for my fallen angel (extremely sad song)

    and then there is this.....
