    Hey all,

Just a heads-up that the LORD site will be closing soon and undergoing a massive overhaul. Anyone who has been on the site recently (has anyone actually been on the site recently?!) will notice that the information is wayyy out of date. The new site is aiming to fix that and more.

Currently, the LORD site is all hand-coded. Any updates must be made using HTML/PHP code editors and then uploaded via FTP to the server. That goes for any updates, news, graphic/photos, etc. We aimed to make stuff a bit more interactive by adding Twitter feeds and rips from this news forum, but even that can only go so far. If we're on tour, for example, there's very little we can do for updates, especially with gig information or tour blogs, etc.

We've made the decision to abandon the hand-coded site in favour of a Content Management System. We do lose a bit of customisation but we gain a massive amount of control and flexibility.

On the new site, we'll have integrated Facebook and Twitter sharing and commenting. The gig page will have venue information and ticket sales integrated directly into the tour dates. All news items, tour dates and blogs can be added or updated from anywhere in the world, even directly from an app on our smart phones.

Speaking of blogs, we'll be adding in blogs for each member which will range from tour diaries, recording diaries, guitar lessons, tabs, rants, and more. You'll be able to comment on them directly from the site or using your Facebook login.

The store is also undergoing a radical overhaul too. The existing store had... quirks, shall we say. It was difficult to update, confusing to use, and plain annoying to administer. The new store is as simple as clicking a product, adding it to your shopping cart, clicking checkout and it's yours. Plus it also has social media integration and far better stock control. It even gives us the flexibility to offer digital items as well, so downloads (either free or paid) such as video and audio files.

It's all very cool and very exciting!

But this means the existing site will be going offline soon, as will the store (and all of the existing logins you had for the store will be lost when you use the new store). Any existing store orders will of course be sent out first. After the new site goes live, there'll likely be some stuff broken or will be continuing to be refined. We'll let you know stuff to try if it's not working for you then.

In the meantime, our Facebook page, Twitter, Discussion Forum, YouTube channel, and everything else will still be online, so sit tight - exciting times ahead! :)

Yep. Lots of custom coding and 3rd party plugins though.

Indeed. Metal Obsession is run on it, which is why I was curious. With plenty of custom coding and plugins though, like you said.

Unfortunately you won't see me there much. The links to FB an Twit will most likely cause our firewall to block it. Not to worry- I'll still be lurking here :)

Cart97PRO all the way!! :headbang:  Bad BAD memories of that script.

If I may offer a suggestion towards the WooCommerce plugin for the shop. I'm using it at the moment, and it kicks some SERIOUS ass. It's updated more frequently than any other plugin i've used.

It's a fork from a plugin called "Jigoshop" (read: developers got paid to bring it to WooThemes) so it's interesting to see them fight it out with updates and features. We reap the benefits though...

We're gonna be running Ecwid, which is good 'cos it can integrate directly into FB profiles, so we can sell from anywhere. It even has a mobile version. A little fiddly to set up but lots of good options and very user friendly. :)

And the existing LORD Store is now closed. Cheers to everyone who ordered stuff from it over the years. New one coming very soon! :)
