If you could take aspects from each album and combine them to make your ideal In Flames album, or take elements from certain songs, what would you choose? I'll start us off: Solos: I loved the amount of solos on SOAPF, they are almost on par with Colony (fantastic solos) IMO. Riffs: The heavy parts of Colony and Clayman (Colony's title track, Pinball Map, Bullet ride) Melodies: Probably Colony, Embody the Invisible and I like the leads on RTR (when you can hear them over the mud). Vocals: Come Clarity. I don't give a shit if the choruses are autotuned or too whiney, I think the choruses are damn catchy and Anders' screams are raw. Lyrics: A tough one. I'd like to see Anders revisit his earlier lyric-writing, as we saw signs of in the SOAPF title track! But I like the political and end-is-nigh lyrics in Come Clarity. Song length: Variety is always good- but no songs that barely reach 3 minutes (unless an instrumental), they just seem radio-built. Loved SOAPF for variety- two long songs closing out the album. I've also noticed a lack of instrumentals of late- RTR onwards (not counting STYE passages and The Jester's Door, spoken word interlude ) Keyboards: Gotta be STYE. My Sweet Shadow, The Quiet Place, Discover me Like Emptiness all have brilliant atmospheric keys and loops. If In Flames could combine all these aspects they would be onto a winner in my books!
