Who else loves watching MMA around here? Let's talk any and all things MMA.

UFC 105 is tonight as well. Discuss some of the match-ups.

On a side note, I just started my own MMA blog here if you are interested in reading it.

I got into watching the UFC when they used to play it on the free TV, but I don't think they still do.

UFC 105 is on Spike right now. It's not PPV.

    Randy Couture is amazing.

To fight at 46 is just insane.

I would love to see Randy winning, his strategy is to clinch and take Brandon down.Although I dont think Vera can submit Couture, if Couture clinches with Brandon it could be a mistake.

Brandon Vera by KO round 3

Been digging the MMA / UFC for awhile now.

Dana White may be a slime-bag...but he's no dummy. Throwing the UFC 105 out there for free on Spike TV is a good move. Doing this to grab viewers and trying to offset the big Pacquiao v Cotto ($) boxing match.

The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights has been a joke. None of the contestants seem worthy, and Rampage's team is trash.

I hope Brock loses next weekend also.

I could post this in the Whining And Bitching Thread, but it would probably be more relevant in here. I decided to make a more comprehensive martial arts facebook quiz than anything else that's available so far and have been organizing stuff in Word for about two days now. I was finally able to group different styles together in a way that efficiently narrowed the results down to fifteen possible outcomes only to find out that the quiz making app that I settled on only allows ten results.

Anyway, these are the groupings that I came up with for the results.

    01) Aikido
    02) Boxing
    03) Capoeira
    04) Judo / Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu / Sambo
    05) Jujutsu / Hapkido
    06) Karate
    07) Krav Maga / Kajukenbo
    08) Kung Fu / Wushu
    09) Muay Thai / Muay Boran
    10) Ninjutsu
    11) Pankration
    12) Taekwondo / Kickboxing
    13) Wing Chun / Jeet Kune Do
    14) Wrestling
    15) Weapon Arts - Archery (Kyudō, Kyujutsu) Bayonet (Jūkendō), Bojutsu, Jōdō / Jōjutsu, Kusarigamajutsu, Naginatajutsu, Rope Restraining (Hojōjutsu, Nawajutsu) Sword (Battōjutsu, Iaido, Kendo, Tameshigiri) Spear (sojutsu) Sticks (Arnise, Escrima, Kali)

Are there any suggestions for how I can narrow it down to ten? Please keep in mind a few things though.

    01) Aikido
    04) Judo / Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu / Sambo
    05) Jujutsu / Hapkido
    11) Pankration
    14) Wrestling

These are intentionally separate categories, because 01 has no competition of any kind and is exclusively defensive with no striking, 04 are competitive grappling sports, 05 are defensive non-sport grappling with some striking, 11 is intensive striking and grappling with only eye gouges and biting outlawed. 14 is separate from 01, 04 and 05 because it relies less on technique and more on power, and because it doesn't teach defense against weapons. 11 doesn't teach defense against weapons either, but striking, choking and joint locking are legal.

    06) Karate
    09) Muay Thai / Muay Boran
    12) Taekwondo / Kickboxing

06 and 09 are both very hard-bodied practices with a lot of knees and elbows, but 06 is slightly more of a mixed art and more spiritual. 09 are almost exclusively striking, but are for sport and combat respectively. 12 are both sports, but a lot of techniques from 09 are illegal in 12.

    08) Kung Fu / Wushu
    13) Wing Chun / Jeet Kune Do

13 are variations of 08, but 08 are flashy ans sporty while 13 are simple and practical.

Basically, those are the things that I considered condensing, but no matter what I try to do I can't make anything work in my head. Maybe I'm just better off finding another quiz maker app or learning how to create my own :erk:

I quit being overly interested in UFC when every fatass started wearing tapout/affliction/etc gear and showing up at the bars for UFC PPV.

But I do like Lesnar. Probably because he's good at what he does and everyone else doesn't like him.

I hope Lesnar (like many others) isn't just another former WWF guy that becomes sick and passes on due to abusing his body in the WWF days?? Hope he has good health and can overcome this for his own and families sake...if he can make it back to the UFC...then great.

Hey you guys jacked my MMA thread!!

Anyway, I'm a massive fan of MMA, went to UFC 104 last month and saw Shogun Vs Machida in Premier Seating at Staples Center :D (won the tickets btw, I'm not THAT big of a fan to shell out like 400 bucks)

Huge fan of Mirko Filipovic, and the fact that he agreed to finishing his contract (I believe he has 2 more fights) made me giddy, though his entire run at UFC has been nothing short of disappointing :(

Also I think that Cain Velasquez is one of the more underrated heavyweights right now, and that he definitely will be champion one day!

Josh Neer is another fighter that is a favorite among mine, has anyone seen his fight with Melvin Guillard?! Probably one of the greatest UFC fights ever! (Not as good as some classic PRIDE fights though!)

And lastly, why is everyone bitching about the tapout clothing phenomena...what is the big effing deal? So what if people think they are badass in a tapout shirt..it's a sport after all! I don't see people bitching about football fans wearing a sports jacket?

Hey, does anyone here actually practice a martial art?

I've been thinking about taking up Wing Chun since it seems pretty accessible and popular, and if I ever try living in Hong Kong for a while it might help me make friends among the locals. Anyone have other suggestions?
