ok in all seriousness ... Kristian Niemann (ex Therion) and my personal favorite Kiko Loureiro (Angra)
you picked probably the worst live video out there from these guys, the audio is terrible there and it makes it sound like Sami plays like crap. Have you ever heard his solo album he even mixed and mastered the whole thing, man this guy is one of the most underrated guitarists I ever seen. I would say he's at the same level as the other necrophagist guitarists. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CxunxtWxgyU 8:46 solo, listen to his other songs too its ridiculous
He messed up bad, had nothing to do with the video quality which is WAY better then most live videos.
I didnt say the video quality was terrible but his sound is, it was going on and off and his tone was pretty bad at that gig, however this video has better sound quality than the other one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wKo9BjENpm8 52:06 necrophagist starts 56:05 for sami solo, no epitaph but what the hell. there are other videos where you can hear his epitaph solo very clear
Its probably not THE most underrated, but definitely one of the least known "super players" out there: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eOMwYz-7h_M&list=UL[/ame] Up your ass with broken glass. >;(
In the past year though I've really gotten into Rush's 80s albums (through Hold Your Fire), so I still love his rhythm work! Also, I'll add Marco Sfogli and especially Nuno Bettencourt
Phil Keaggy, dude can play. Mike Mushok (pretty impressed with his playing, to bad his band doesn't give him to many opportunities to show it).
his old old stuff and lives were cool. But i saw them 3 times before he broke his arm and his playing was shit, sound was shit, stage presence aswell. real disappointment. And i love his work, the first albums and video lives. but on stage... meh. Otherwise, Andy James, Dan Mongrain, the guy from threat signal (can't remember his name )
Yeah, Alexi really sucked on the Stockholm Knockout DVD, but he (really the whole band, but him included) put on an amazing show when I saw them with Devin and others last year, so we all have good days and bad days
I cant believe it took a page and a half for someone to say Alex Lifeson...lol Joe Bonamossa (not well known enough) John Mayer (hes known more as a singer) Keith Urban Vince Gill In Metal: Eric Petersen Head from Korn (guy shreds) Mikael Akerfeldt Both guys from Tesseract Oh and total agreement on Andy James, and Per from SS
when did you see him ? he has broken his arm twice one was like two years ago and the other time was like in 2005, i agree he doesnt play incredible right now but damn those old times when he was young, he was a virtuoso
Well what ppl seem to be missing in this thread is Originality. There are to many fast players out there. Impressive yes but oh so boring. A tapping solo, sweep whatever can be awesome in context but we all seen it 1billion times. I liked that young Russian guy though. Had a cool style, which felt pretty fresh.
