Meeehh, I like rain, but not snow (only for Christmas, but that's it). I made this cute little snowman last winter in our backyard! I just got bored of my shark avater and found this while looking through my folder of old avaters.

I don't want to feel no more
    It's easier to keep falling
    imitations are pale
Emptiness of tomorrow's haunted by your ghost
Lay down black gives way to blue
    Lay down I'll remember you

    Fading out by design
    Consciously avoiding changes
    Curtains drawn now it's done
Silencing all tomorrows, forcing a goodbye
Lay down black gives way to blue
    Lay down I'll remember you

jesus christ those lyrics just wanna make you cry. watch the acoustic performance from ny and look at the emotions in jerrys face

I figured out the rhythm and lead melodies to that song after a few minutes of tinkering today...it took a few minutes longer because the bends get really fucked up because I was tuned to E instead of their standard Eb on my electric. Eb on the acoustic and it's a four chord song right out of the box. Easy to play and sing physically until it hits you.

As I was singing and playing it, there came a time where I literally got choked up and had to wipe my eyes a bit. I wasn't in a sad mood or anything but it hit me even harder when I was playing it. I'm starting a grungy-type band as I have a voice very similar to the Jerry/Layne mix, and I don't think I'll be able to play this song live in all honesty. I've seen professional singers tear while they sing, and I finally see why. I think there are certain tones and melodies that resonate with you so powerfully you lose control of your emotions...at least that's my theory. I'm definitely not an emotional person but for some reason I just lost control.

I can't imagine what Jerry Cantrell must've gone through writing and recording this. It must've been hell for the poor guy.

I went to play with a friend of mine since we're forming a garage thrash cover band just for shits and giggles and I brought the album over. After being blown away by it of course, he and I then started talking about the music industry and how much of an impact this album is gonna have.

In my opinion, it's going to be good for the music industry because EVERYONE'S going to buy this album if they like AIC. However, I believe it's also going to prove once and for all to the industry suits that downloading isn't killing music. This album leaked and now everyone is uber-excited about its release because it's a great album. I think it goes to show that if you put out a damn good album, if you take your time and ignore what the rest of the world is telling you and do what's right for you and write the album you've always wanted to write, that's going to shine through in the music and people will come in droves to buy it. If anything, the leak HELPED this album's sales because now everyone knows just how great this album is and they can't wait to get it.

Write great songs and you'll find success in the music industry, with or without downloading. This is what it all comes down to.

Write shitty ones while trying to ride a bandwagon because the label told you to and we'll see right through you and leave your bloated, stinking carcass of an album to rot in the hot desert sun.

Cantrell has bollocks of iron. Thats what the record tells me. After all the bullshit, he coughs up this amazing record. Rising up out of the ashes. The proverbial Phoenix. Duvall too, has some amazing balls to be able to pull this shit off. He had mighty large shoes to fill, and although no one can replace Layne, i think hes done very well. However, its blatantly obvious this is still the Jerry Cantrell Show. Maybe if they continue, we can see just exactly what Duvall is capable of.

    Also, i want that shirt!!

You know what else I really like?

How it's Jerry finally getting the recognition for this band instead of Layne. I know Jerry has always got plenty of recognition, and I know Layne is deserving of everything he's got, but really, it's spotlight on Jerry this time and I love that.

Jerry Cantrell has always been THE most overlooked guitarist/singer/songwriter in heavy rock/metal, imo. There's not a single album he has done that hasn't touched a nerve with both his and AIC's fans.

Another beautifully sad song of his is on his first album, Boggy Depot, called "Hurt A Long Time". The guy just knows how to write great music.

Just used a quarter tank of gas driving through the city listening again.

I'm already a miserable fuck why am I doing this to myself? I damn sure can't sleep now with the title track stuck in my head. I don't even want to be alone in the dark.

I've already given my opinions in this topic but one last time for a great album. Cheers to Jerry for reminding me entertainment and real music are two different things.

I'm listening to it right now... I like it, but it doesn't really blow me away.. Probably because I'm not a fan. Maybe I'll get more into it after listening it a few more times...

EDIT: The title track is definitely really beautiful :)

The best songs are the last two, I recommend listening to the album backwards.
