This owns. This song was clearly written for Annette, which is really good to see. I think this album will be fantastic. Still debating an LA trip. Also I love how you can hear the guy turning up his macbook in the track.
Absolutely, completely, and totally, brilliant. Anette really shines on this. Tuomas holopainen cements his reputation as one of the finest, if not the finest, composer in metal...ESPECIALLY if the rest of the CD sounds like this.
The melodies and orchestration are impressive as always. I still can't handle Annette's vocals. I'm not a hater, or even a Tarja fan for that matter. Her style just does not seem right for the music.
I'm agreeing with Justin on this one. Annette just doesn't fit this style of music. She has a nice voice, for pop music maybe, but not Nightwish or anything heavy. The music? Not too shabby. I'll even go as far as to say I could listen to this, as compared to the last disc which got 2 spins and tossed into the "basement pyre", never to be seen again
It's too bad Tuomas didn't confer with the people on this board as to who would be a good singer for his band. I guess Nightwish has been a total bust under his guidance. (BTW-just in case there is confusion, this is said with extreme sarcasm)
While I think everyone's entitled to their own opinions, it certainly sounds like the 3 of you gave it one disc and "2 listens" before deciding it'd never work. I can't stop listening to this. I'm actually going to buy this single when it comes out. I really don't understand how people can listen to this and still not think this song wasn't written specifically for Annette's voice.
Me too. They really make it for me, especially in tandem with the choir vocals. As for Anette, this wouldn't be one of the songs where I think she really shines, but she does well. I like her vocals about 85% of the time in the current NW sound, but occasionally I wish she had a bit more depth and power, usually at high points. I was a huge fan of early NW, but I totally believe they needed to move away from the Tarja-style. Looking forward to hearing some new songs with Marco on vocal support. He adds the punch Anette occasionally lacks, imo.
As much as I disliked Anette's vocals up until now, this sounds ok to these ears. I will give the album a chance.
Meh, still not a huge Anette fan, from a vocal standpoint. I find her vocals too poppy for Tuomas' orchestrations. I'll still give this album a chance. Unfortunately, her vocals less-than-impressed me on the last album. :/ She's a hell of a pop singer, though. Would love to hear her doing some 80's pop covers. Not that she will, that's just my selfish wish. I do take issue with the fact that folks make a dissenting opinion, and clearly they're not giving the new material a chance, those clods! Who gives a fuck if three or four people on the PP forums aren't impressed? As it's been established, NW is more popular now than they ever were with Tarja. A handful of people (myself included) who may not be terribly enthused are not going to change NW's popularity. Nor are we seeking to do so. And no one has insulted Anette's vocals thus far, either.
Who said anything about popularity? Nightwish is obviously a bigger success each year, and that's well deserved. I just can't get into their music anymore.
I hope not to big that they can't do Progpower one more time at least. I can just imagine what their guarantee is now, and for a one off Like the show in LA in Jan WOW, i can just imagine how much..... oh that is a Nightwish/Kingfoo/Feinberg deal. But as to the song I love it, and my little Grandson loves it also, he will sit and listen and headbang to it for as long as I will play it.
