Hmm well there is the series of "String Quartet tribute to..." series that has a tribute to ( off the top of her head ) Iron Maiden and Slayer. It's like cellos and violinsand stuff. no vocals tho'.
Good call - I think they're 'Apocolyptica' or something like that. Funny that it's always metal bands covering pop tunes hardly ever ther other way around. What about Johnny Cash doing NIN's 'Hurt' is awesome
I think the two groups are different, and from what I hear most people go for Apocalyptica. Not sure though, I onky know a friend bought the String Quartet's Tribute to Incubus and told me they had one for Maiden .
I've heard "Techno" Covers of Iron Maiden, Metallica, Judas Priest songs, needless to say, I wanted to shoot myself...
Eagle: there was once an album called Anthrax and the history of Thrash, it was actualy a bumch of techno versions fo Thrash Metal tunes... horrible stuff...
It's funny that it's usually better when the metal bands cover the pop stuff then the other way around. hee hee.
Yep - Awesome cover - great choirs and atmosphere. Xentrix doing 'Ghostbusters' or Edguy doing Ultrabvox's 'Hymn' are two more of my favourites.
I have a version of 'We Will Rock You' sung as an a capella lullaby by Linda Ronstadt. Unusual, but very pretty. (Hope all is well with you all in MR land)
Well there were a couple of americans who did some excellent ... and I mean EXCELLENT lounge versions of some old Dream Theater songs. Portnoy used to have it played over the PA during the breaks. They never released it on CD and I don't have the mp3s anymore - shame One recent tune which comes to mind is Shakira - Back in Black (its on her excellent new live DVD)
