I don't think this is worst than sneaps mix in genesis, it's just different. I only liked sneaps guitar tone better, the rest is just different. I'm loving it in a different way. Also vox could come up just a notch. But damn, I loved Genesis, but this is way better, they really stepped up their game, songs don't sound as repetitive and there's much more catchy riffs, not a "change riff every 2 seconds like genesis"

Yeah, They didn't like Nordstrom's mix at all so they sent it to Suecof.

Yeah.. I think that the latest BMTH sounded really good, the new Nightrage is ok but otherwise his (their) mixes have really lost in quality compared to the older stuff.

Definitely NOT a slate snare. I made that sample myself its actually a jordison snare. Jay and i use it on various records here and there. Sorry some of you dont like it, haha. Maybe next time we'll make various mixes with sneap forumers drum samples so everyone can be happy...

i have to admit im loving the mix on this
there was just something about the attack of the snare that reminded me of slate
no need to get butthurt, this is a forum full of highly opinionated individuals, can't please everyone n shit.

im personally loving how much room mic there is on the drums :D

my only complaint is that the vocals are a tad quiet, but otherwise, its gravy

Shit dude! not buthurt at all just makin a joke brosef... all the opinions around here can fuel some good humor.

And yes jay and i are trying to make records alot more organic now both on our and when we work together...which leads to some more use of room mics in one way or another haha. The daath, Jfac, and the upcoming black dahlia are very unquantized on purpose. We felt the bands could pull it off and thought it would be a shame to take away their feel, particularly drum wise. I feel it makes for a much more timeless record. The ultra quantizing is ok for some stuff but it make the record sound VERY now. When a record has its own feel i think its more timeless. It could be 1989 or 2009... know what i mean?

thats just my opinion... but i stand by it.

Really good point, I totally agree with your opinion. Haven't heard the new JFAC album yet though, so I guess I'm just spamming the thread here.

That is a killer fucking mix! :headbang: The music is ok, doesn't really give me wood but definitely decent and good players all around.

Sorry to dredge up an old thread, but...I've had this CD for a good while now, and I completely, completely dig it. Actually, I like this much more than I thought I would. I used to slam JFAC when Doom came out and even Genesis, reducing them to nothing more than a Myspace pig squeal phenom. But man, I so dig Ruination.

Both the music and the production/mix is spot on.

Mark, if you have a sec, care to elaborate on anything more than the more natural drums?

What amps? And what was used for the bass guitar? I love the bass tone on this. And obviously the guitars are ferocious.

I can't say I have ever been a complete Suecof or Audiohammer fanboy, but this mix and Deflorate have me ready to hug some nuts.

I'm flying over to Nordstrom's studio in March as he's mixing my band's debut album. I've been trying to find his best mixes and pick out the kind of sounds I want for us. I'll have to check out the Job For A Cowboy mix. Anyone know if he engineered it or just mixed on this?
