Ignore what you think you know about this band. Shut up and listen. It's surprisingly good (though I suspect there are a few of you that already knew this.) Somewhere along the line the singer got better control over his vocals. I listened to some older stuff, and musically it's just as good. If the rest of the album is like this song, I may have to buy it. Color me impressed.
I had never heard them before. That was some serious prog wankery. And I mean that in a mostly complimentary fashion.
Scurrilous is definitely something I think would appeal to most people here. The growls are gone besides one track, and his clean vocals, as you noted, have gotten a lot better. The album is incredible all the way through and this isn't even one my favorite songs.
I've always like the band's instrumental work, but I've always *hated* the singer's voice. He's gotten a *lot* better, so i'll probably give this disc a shot.
Protest The Hero And I gotta agree, this is big improvement from their last couple of discs. I got tired of Fortress pretty quick, but this new stuff shows promise.
This is a great album. Everyone should give it a listen. "Dunsel" and "Sex Tapes" are my favorite tracks on Scurrilous .
That is exactly how I feel. I just sort of sat there exclaiming "WHY IS THIS SO GOOD???" Based on the other comments in this thread, I'll probably go ahead and pick up the new album, because I'm REALLY liking what I hear so far.
This is my favorite song off of the album. The lyrics crack me up every time. I think that may not be the intended effect, but hey... I never got the impression that he wasn't in control of his vocals, just that he liked to do weirder crap than most people wanted to hear. Personally I might like Kezia the most still, but this album is a very close second. It starts brilliantly with this song and goes out with another chucklefest in the form of Sex Tapes.
Love this band! Checked them out when the last album came out on the recommendation from a friend. The new album is much better than the last. Joan, ask Al to watch this video. Then ask him who the lead singer looks like (or rather is a dead on, almost twin for!).
We actually both saw this video at the same time. A friend of our's told us we needed to watch it. Al didn't mention the singer looking like anyone. :/
