Hello Folks! I've been wondering recently if any of You boys from hell have other musical inspirations than long-hairish-speed-death-metal kinda thing ? how'bout You ,Steve?
Jesus, yeah I do. Lately I've been listening to a shit-ton of Dinosaur Jr. Also: My Bloody Valentine Emerson, Lake & Palmer Rush Heresy Crumbsuckers Deep Wound Vivaldi The Cure Melvins Dysrythmia Pan-Thy-Monium Thin Lizzy I listen to a lot of different stuff.
If you like Spastic Ink/Watchtower/Spiral Architect/Cynic/Any of that technical kinda stuff, you should check out Thelonious Monk. While you're at it, listen to some Charlie Parker too. Cause, he's awesome.
The more diversity you have in your cd room, the better you are. It's funny when i was younger i use to think some style of music were dumb and just couldn't get it.......good thing i don't think the same. But i still hate Dance and western music.......that will personnaly never change. I really like Elvis, Beatles, Neil Young..............well the more you know, the better you are.
Latelly I´ve been listening to "Cheiro de Vida" (Brazilian Prog/Funk/whatever) from the early 90s, The Hellecasters (Instrumental country music - GREAT stuff), random stuff from Nico Assumpção (Brazilian bassist, the best IMHO)... And Death Metal. =P
Well that'l do for a start spastic kinda stuff i dig ,offcourse about the rest ,well... my infuences are(right now) : Frank Zappa Charlie Parker,Monk,Chick Korea 'Horovitz even Pastorius ,Stanley Clarke Sadus as we all Peter Gabriel ,KIng Krimson Blood Sweat and Tears (the 70's one - not the mashine head one ) Mahavishnu Orchestra ,Weather Report ,Shankar Yes ,Rush ,Rainbow (just a little bit) Bela Fleck 'n stuff Tribal Tech as for the humour : polish band Virgin Greetings for my Grandma now the hevy stuff ... just joking MOSTLY ANYTHING THAT HAS MUSIC POTENTIAL and not to serious checkout the bands I play in: Przasniczki (myspace.com)www.tenebris.igk.pl soorry folks but most of that stuff is in my native language:/ cheerz'n'greetz!
I love it whenever anyone mentions Frank Zappa. I don't listen to a lot of death metal, but here's what's been playing lately for me: Stuck Mojo (rap metal) Agent Cooper (sort of prog-rock) Paul Gilbert's solo stuff (pop-rock, technical guitar playing) Q*Ball (pop-electronica) Jamiroquai (pop-funk) And I've thrown some Sammy Hagar on.
JAMIROQUAI roxx! when it comes to groove About Frank ... tell me how one man can possibly make over 100 discs with music thats so various and beautifull?
