I prefere my arms, your hearse. This album is more bleak and death/black influenced imo.
its a sad day when i agree with metal_wrath
Still Life is better. No question. I cite the following evidence:
I wonder why you only could vote if you had been a fan of Opeth at least two years. weird.
still life.....!!!!...its more ...umm....accessible..!!!....has more of a refined sound...and somewhat better production too......though the materail of both is fantastic...!!!!.........PEAC EOUT
Definitely MY ARMS YOUR HEARSE!
heh some Opeth fans are this dumb
oh and first time I heard someone mention MAYH I heard "My arms your ass" and I was wondering what that album was really about.
still life is better but blackwater park is the way to go
NO WAY, DELIVERANCE 100%!!!11111shift+1!1eleven
Although I'm probably the only person to think Deliverance is their best album.
In my opinion, Opeth has gone through three major periods:
2. My Arms Your Hearse
3. Still Life through present day
As brilliant as the first two albums are, they really changed their sound with MAYH - it's darker, denser, more mysterious and more brutal. And after boldly and successfully withstanding criticisms for an all-acoustic track in To Bid You Farewell, MAYH is even more confident in its dynamics. It's also a concept album, and a very captivating and cohesive one, at that.
Still Life is an amazing album too - they all are - but I'd say there's a bigger shift in execution and writing between MAYH and SL vs SL and its subsequent albums (with Damnation being an obvious outlier).
So that's my .02.
And if I had extra $$, I'd start a foundation for fans looking to hear the rest of Opeth's discography - 'cause you really shouldn't buy anything else until you've heard it all. (and no downloading either!!!)
np: Sigh - Hail Horror Hail
still life because it's my fav opeth album
just wondering: you are a member since february 2004 ... and you still consider yourself a noob? and you still haven't heard all their albums?? ... weird
perhaps he hasnt listened to much opeth, hence the term "Opeth n00b"
Mike... if you're planning to post here more you'll have to reduce the size of your sig, man. It's just too big. sorry....
Ultimate Metal hosts messageboards for a wide variety of bands, belive it or not, some people register to discuss these without having heard Opeth!
Find a way to get both.....
Still Life is better....
PROBABLY? NOOOO WAY IN HELL... *Insert sarcastic laugh here*
Asmodee! Glad to see you round here, where have you been dude?
