The burning sensation means you're damaging your throat, or more specifically, you're doing too much with your throat and not enough with your diaphragm. Try to make a growl with the least amount of breath you possibly can. You should be using your abdominal muscles. If you're dong it right, your abs will be sore after a growling session. Also - the volume should be about the same as loud laughter.

I agree along with Timbus. If you're burning your throat, your fucking with your chords. You have to push it out with your diaphragm[that was the word I was looking for earlier], like Tim said. Try ripping it from your diaphragm out through the back of your throat. I suck at the human body descriptions, but if you try to make it sorta nasally sounding, you might be doing it right.
I learned how to not trash my throat and get a pretty good sounding scream/growl on these pages...

The top two are where I learned most how to scream/growl. But remember, it takes a lot of practice. I've been trying this stuff since August or so, and I'm getting better.

    Thanks, the both of you.

Also, these questions are directed towards everybody in the band, if possible.
    1. Who are a few of your major influences in music?
    2. Who are some of your favorite folk metal bands, if any?

    Oops missed this post somehow...

    For me:

    1. Primarily Metallica, In Flames, Opeth, Necrophagist, The Black Dahlia Murder, Children Of Bodom, Finntroll, and like....5 billion others.
    2. Finntroll is great, Turisas is all right, In Flames used to be kickass folk metal on their first 3 albums. Korpiklaani is all right.

What type of drumsticks do you use and find most comfortable?

Do you realize how much money it is to do that? They're not going anywhere without getting paid to come.

We'd just barely break even at $4,000, $5-6,000 would be better to compensate the working members for missing ~10 days of work.

    You should do it :)

If this thread is truly still running,
As A Bassist, I've got my question for Austin,

Do you use your fingers, or do you use a pick?
Live, What do you use as far as Amps go?
How much to you practice your bass, and on the Average, How long a day?
and Who do you look up to, as a bassist?
and Finnaly, Is there any bass part to In The Hall Of The Goblin King? I can't hear it at all. Maybe it's just me but it's rather hard to pickup on.

    1. I'm influenced by a wide variety of rock/metal - everything from Nine Inch Nails and Tool to Iron Maiden to Cannibal Corpse. As of late, my biggest influences have been Between the Buried and Me, In Flames, Opeth, Children of Bodom, The Black Dahlia Murder, Lamb of God, and Arsis.

    2. Finntroll, Turisas, other bands that Tim probably mentioned. I can't really think of any folk metal bands off the top of my head that I've listened to and haven't liked.

Not true! There's MIDI bass on the entire CD, but it's mixed pretty low.

There will definitely be bass on the next album, Austin has some fun stuff he plays.

As far as the merch, we used to have home-made shirts but the effort to make them and quality was pretty bad, so we scrapped those. We have that MySpace "Zazzle" thing, and the quality of those things is great, but unfortunately the prices are completely ridiculous. Don't despair though! Give us about a month and we should have reasonably priced, high quality stuff. Hopefully not too long over a month.

Well, that was Zazzle. It just didn't work out as well as we thought. The new merch will be through the label.
