Primordial, Mourning Beloveth, Paradise Lost, etc. I'm looking for metal only, and no metalcore or emocore either. I already know of the more well known obvious answers (My Dying Bride, Forgotten Tomb, Rapture, Saturnus, etc.).

Good recs. I've heard those. Ataraxie, Nocturnal Depression, Solistice, Bethlehem, etc. also have this quality to some extent, to give you an idea. I've tried to explore this further, but haven't come up with much.

Desire and The Fall of Every Season = pretty much what you're looking for. If you're looking to delve outside doom, check out:

    Pain of Salvation
    Dark Suns

Oh, it doesn't have to be doom. Primordial isn't doom, for instance. I'm glad everyone has had the common sense not to recommend Opeth. haha

    edit:
Desire from Portugal? If so, then yes, their sound does fit what I am looking for.

bump. good recs for the most part. right now I'm hungering for more of the same. among other things, bands heavily influenced by early katatonia would work, too.
