    "Escaping the Delta" is kinda what inspired this post, and I also recommend it. Yeah, I think it's easy to romanticize early blues artists and forget that they were mostly just dudes trying to make a buck. That's not to say their music wasn't from the heart, but y'know, there wasn't much money in juke joints or on the streets so guys really went out of their way to be professional enough to record. I remember reading that when Muddy Waters put out his first record, he dressed up, went to a professional photographer and got his picture taken posing with the record.
