I am going to Sacrifice the next person who posts a new thread that is about a song in Paradise Lost
Good god canto, i swear i thought i was going to have to hunt you down and slay you
I'm liking you more and more.
threads about Paradise Lost songs > thread hijacking and in-jokes
I feel like the ultimate fag with my sig now
My sig owns, Ryuji Yamazaki ! "Ekozo.. ekozo.. EKOZO !!!" Yeah, owned..
Yeah, god forbid anyone should dare talk about a song from the new album. It's only been 5 years in the making and there wasn't any excitement about its release. But then again, it's been out for almost a week now, so I guess everyone should be over it.
Please, everyone, revert back to the same old "Dream Theater discussion" and "Now playing" threads. We've had enough talk about the new album already. What do you think this is, a SymphonyX forum or something?
My point, through subliminal messages and highly advanced metaphors, is that someone should create one thread where everyone posts about the new album, not continue making new threads about the songs. Is it that hard to think that much ?
Don't feel like the ultimate fag. Mr. Fast is absolutely right.
Exactly. Talking about the new album is one thing, making 10 different threads for 10 different short riffs in the same song... that's just banal.
Oh yeah, because the forum is just being completely overrun with an excessive number of new threads all talking about one minor part of each song on the album.
You suck! How freakin' hard is it to NOT read a thread where the subject line clearly indicates that the person who created it is interesting in discussing one aspect of a song? If you're not interested, don't read it. But don't come on here and create a new thread of your own complaining about all of the threads that others are wasting forum space with when you know damned well that you're completely exaggerating the situation. And who the hell made you the janitor for this forum anyway?
Multiple people making different posts all regarding the same topic is quite banal, but at the end of the day, what do you really expect?
We are posters on an internet message board. An internet message board. Never has there been a place where actual organization is less apparent than on the internet. Now, you ask: "is it really necessary that WE make ten posts about the same topic?" And my response to you is: "what the hell do you expect?" There is no collective "we" sitting in room, monitoring everyone's actions.
I completely understand that in YOUR mind everyone should OBVIOUSLY look through the entire forum for the exact topic they want to speak about, and then post a reply in a thread already 5 pages long. Believe me, I agree with you. The only reason I do agree, however, is because I know how message boards work and how people like yourselves get angry when someone does not follow protocol. Well, the military this ain't.
Let me avoid getting into a conversation of our "fast-paced, workaholic society" and simply state an obvious fact: people don't have time to search an entire board for something they are excited about. Now, the question is, should they make time? No. It's really not worth it. Why? Because it's only going to upset the 6-10 people who frequent the message board every 2 hours to check on their latest post to see if someone replied, and thus, reply back, and repeat the cycle ad nauseum.
I am not making fun of anyone who does either of these things. If you want to post every ten minutes, be my guest. I generally check these boards at least twice a day, so I'm guilty as well. Just don't get mad at the people who don't.
It's easy to put down people who are simply excited to post about something they feel they need to say, rather than hunt for a message to reply to. It's harder, however, to actually welcome these people and give their "10th post of the same topic" a pass. Because at the end of the day, we are a fan community. And, maybe it's just me in my crazy old head, but I thought fan communities were of the model of trying to welcome new fans (thus increasing popularity for the band they are a fan of, and subsequently helping the band towards success). If you don't come from this mindset, well, stop being an elitist, possessive snob, and try to spread the word about a band you enjoy. Mocking every person who posts randomly is surely not going to create a welcome environment for new fans or even timid, older fans.
Enjoy the essay. Lighten up.
Well said, EyeballKid.
Oh, and just to summarize the overwhelming barrage of useless individual song posts on the forum; Page 1; As of 1:10 PM on 7/3/07:
Number of threads related to a specific song: 3
Number of threads bitching about threads related to a specific song: 2
I agree. This is a HUGE problem. I can't find anything I'm looking for anymore. I had to go to page 2 to find Zach's "Who's a bit drunk?" thread. All of this useless analysis is getting in the way of finding the really important stuff.
Whoops, my bad. There are actually 5 threads about individual songs. Just want to be fair to those who feel the forum is being drowned with them. 2 of them are way down at the bottom as they haven't been viewed in a few days, so I didn't see them. Now that I know they are there I will change my position because obviously there are way too many of them.
Eyeballkid and scanner313, I'm not complaining, and I don't care too much about the many threads. I made this topic as a joke, you know, a little humor to get us past this hectic time of the releasing of a new album for this great band that we all enjoy. All I want to do is to bring smilies on your faces and stand firm and strong for justice and the will to do right. Be with me my brothers and sisters, we can do this together !
You're one dry sonuvabitch, CantoX. I like your style.
I appreciated the humor in your original comment, but it still sounded like you were complaining. Sorry if I misinterpreted your position.
And yes, we can "do this together". Although I'm not really sure what THIS is.
Aww shit! Here we go again!
Call this little shindig "lobbying" if you wish.
