The gig hadn't been kept secret though! Fair enough if the whole point was that they wanted a younger crowd in there, and not us old f*****s. But the gig was hardly secret!

It would be nice though if someone posted something on the website about what the gig was all about, what the channel 4 doc is all about etc.

Exactly. If someone "official" had come on here and explained what was happening, that it was out of their hands and they hadn't made the decision to keep the loyal fans out of it, etc etc- then maybe, just maybe, we'd understand - still be pissed off about it, but understand a bit better. But no. It just feels like a kick in the teeth. I would have said balls, but I haven't got any! :D Maybe if anyone in Saxon had any balls, they'd have stuck by the fans that have been keeping them going for the last 25 years or so, eh? :Smug:

Yes there was a leak 24 hours before the gig, but in the eyes of the TV makers the gig had remained secret long enough, so when the true fans heard about it, it was too late. The gig was played, filmed and pronounced a success; with a couple of us die-hard’s managing to get there through more luck and circumstance.

That gig was weird, not having the rest of you in the crowd, no one knew the songs, and Biffs banter between songs was phrased to a new audience. There was one other guy in the crowd wearing a Killing Ground sweatshirt and this was frowned upon by some people (people close to the band, I hasten to add). We were not meant to be there and it sucked!! I wish I had never turned up.

Yes we should have more communication through official sources, but that is not going to happen. The plus to come out of this is to put Saxon in front of a new generation of fan, a younger fan that relays on communication through technology web, mobile messaging, my web space blog!! blat!! Whatever!! If Saxon and their management are going to grasp this, they need to communicate through these avenues, inform their fans, its simple basics. Like Sammi said if they had explained to us what was going on then this whole affair would have not backfired on them. Now us older fans feel pushed out!

“Where were you in '79 when the dam began to burst
Did you check us out down at the local show
Were you wearing denim, wearing leather
Did you run down to the front
Did you queue for your ticket through the ice and snow

Did you read the music paper from the back and to the front
Did you find out where to see your favorite band
Did you listen to the radio every Friday night
Did hang around your local record store

It was you - that set the spirit free
It was you - that put us here today
It was you - that filled the concert halls
It was you - that set the spirit free”

Hey Saxon - remember us oldies ?

    couldn`t be said any better.:kickass:

This is why I feel hanging them up(me boots), has come now. None of these bands we supported since their birth(Saxon, Maiden, Priest for example)seem to want us old farts there anymore. Yeah, we support them financially more now then back in the early 80`s because we have jobs and have some money to spend, but we simply don`t have as much energy as we once did. Probably why these bands want younger fans now. Maybe these bands want to "re-live" their old glory of doing it all over again(but for much more money now)and trying to get these younger fans into the music and lyrics like they did with us when we young. Eh, who knows. I just don`t understand why there is so much bickering from these older bands about having "nostalgic" fans at their shows. It`s just entertainment. Back in the day these bands didn`t give a shit who showed up their shows as long as they showed up and paid for their ticket.

Listen luvvie - some of the people on here were supporting Saxon long before you were born (not me, but many others on here) - so if we're not happy, we're gonna say so! When you feel that passionately about something, something like this hurts and does indeed feel personal, whether it was meant personally or not.

I'm with RayNJ on this. I'm out as well. I've decided to support younger bands with a bit of enthusiasm and respect for the paying punter. If Saxon think they can attract the same loyalty from a new generation then good luck to them but there's far more choice for the youth out there now so it'll be difficult. Their tastes will change with maturity as well. Just like my daughter who used to fawn over New Kids on the Block but now denies all knowledge of their previous existence! There's plenty of good bands coming through like The Answer,Roadstar and Wolfmother. I fear a Spinal Tapesque hatchet job by Channel4 but I hope not. Good Luck with whatever it is you are trying to achieve! :headbang:

Yeah having seen the pics of the gig, I'm glad I wasn't there. I could do without a bunch of snotty tossers barging into me and feeling they have to take their tops off for some reason.

I must admit I laughed at the bit of the review that said "tonight they were giving it large to devoted fans worshipping at their feet". That will be the devoted fans who didn't know what band they were seeing but hoping it was the Cure then!

Judging by that pic, it's only a handful of kids into it. Look at that kid with the jumper with the white stripes down the sleeves, he looks bored shitless! And the bird with blonde hair at the front looks bewildered! I tell you what, I'm fucking bewildered!

I see young kids having a good time. Nothing wrong with that. But that is not the issue at all in my opinion. It's the communication-structure that is so weak organized. That is causing all these irritations. It is the management that is fustrating things. Short-vission. The musicians are not to blame, and the fans neither. When I read the news..from Biff I am glad that the man himself writes something on the board. And further place yourselfs in his position..and the band..working on a new album..and than all this bullshit-management-shit...(sometimes I think of the song: Ain't gonna take it, from the Solid Ball of Rock album, when push comes to shove, this can't be love..) Maybe the management says: You must do it or ..otherwise.. I don't know..) And that documentary thing, well I haven't got a clue what that is all about.. the benefit of the doubt.. The weird thing about the message is, that as Saxonator says: It contains old news..and additionally there is a weird thing about it.. Why cancell that south-american shows because it were no Saxon-headline gigs, when you already know the visa-stuff already made it impossible. It was an Impossbility and in fact that was the reason..?? and not the fact weather it was a headline gig or not.. But I really hope there will be soon a better communication.. webrings as promissed etc...and info about the DVD. I really hope in december christmas (this year!), would be nice.. but in future no-more things like this please...

And who, then, is responsible for hiring the Management, if not the band themselves? If I had hired a manager who turned out to be total shite, I'd give him his marching orders - not let him keep on bollocksing things up and annoying my fan base, that's for sure!!
